Busy but entertaining

Sail Date: April 2011
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan

Sailed on the Caribbean Princess April 17 - 24 out of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

We stayed at the Courtyard Isla Verde the night before. We are normally a high ended hotel type couple but really enjoyed this hotel and the services.

We had been upgraded to a penthouse suite which was really nice with just a few drawbacks. The suite is on the Riviera Deck which means you are just below the Lido deck i.e. chair noise and early morning noises. It did not really bother us much but several mornings we were awakened by something loud rolling across the deck above us. But that being said....take the upgrade if it is given to you!!!! The room was very nice and large with a big deck. Loved the full breakfast delivered to our room each day. We don't enjoy going to the buffet and having to wait for people standing at each area staring at food like it is going to do something! Service was excellent in our room also.

Cruise was busy with 5 stops. Normally we like more days More at sea but didn't do much at every stop so that was ok too.

After the cruise we stayed one night at the Doubletree hotel. Nice hotel, good service, tiny pool and no beach. For one night....it was fine. Less

Cabin review: Caribbean Princess Suite with Balcony Riviera

Great balcony, loved the size of the suite, noisy above on the pool Lido deck sometimes. Great service.

Port and Shore Excursions

Emerald Princess was in also this day so it was BUSY in town. We could hardly move and did not book anything this day so thought we would shop a bit in town. After being asked for the 20th time (we actually counted) we decided to get back on the ship. Much better on the ship than off of it this day!

Beautiful island, lovely resort. We took a cab over to Rendezvous All inclusive resort for couples only which is only 5 minutes for the port. I had booked it direct with them in advance for a day pass. LOVELY. Two pools, great beach, great service, good drinks, terrific day here and we will be back!

We have been to St Thomas so many times we can't count them anymore. This was more of an "at sea" day for us. We strolled over to the Pueblo Market which you can see from the dock (Not Havensight) and bought a bottle of Cruzan Vanilla Rum, bigger than the ones at home, for $7.98. Items at this grocery store are cheap compared to other options. Other than that we stayed on the ship which was great since everyone else was in port.

Booked a great excursion on Tortola Charters over to Jost Van Dyke. Met some great people that we spent time with!! Bill, our captain let us know they had some ship trouble so we would be using a smaller, slower ship to the island. We got there fine, had a great time BUT when it came time to leave, we were told they would make one trip and come back for us. Ship was leaving at 5:30 so as this was 3:15 or so it seemed ok to us. As 4:15 came around and we did not see anyone coming back for us, we thought we might have to ask someone else to give us a ride back. But then they did show up to pick us up. Took us to the other side of Tortola and were giving us a cab ride back. The cabbie never showed so Bill put us on another cab. He had to drive like a maniac to get us there in time through traffic. We made it with 30 seconds to spare! Extreme Excursion we called it!
