I was a bit concerned about cruising on the Grand Princess before it went into dry dock. At the end of our voyage we felt that we had not been inconvenienced in any way by the work that was taking place. Granted there was an area we could not use and we did see the odd workmen moving through the ship but it did not bother us at all. I did feel a bit betrayed because we were not told about the preparations for the ships drydock until after we had paid our full payment. I did feel that it should have been explained at the time of booking or at sometime before the date of final payment. We were very happy with our the location of our cabin which was on the same deck as the swimming pools and Horizon Court. Our cabin steward was excellent as were our wait staff in the dining room. We felt the meals were very well done when one considers the number of plates being served each night. The food in the buffet was adequate and there was always enough variety to be able to find something that was interesting and tasty. We enjoyed all the evening shows and did participate in a few of the afternoon activities such as Trivia. The cruise director and his staff were a hoot and were out and about all the time. It was fun to see them mixing so easily with the passengers. They were all great personalities but think their director Martyn set the example. They all had a super time with the passengers and it was obvious how much they enjoyed their jobs. Our departure from the ship was handled in a very efficient manor and we were through customs very quickly. The terminal in Ft. Lauderdale is a bit confusing when trying to find the proper place to board the car rental shuttles but that is no fault of the cruise line. This was our second cruise on Princess and I can not speak highly enough about them. It was nice that we had the same Captain on the Grand as we had when we went through the Panama last year on the Island Princess but we did feel that the cruise director staff on the Grand was much more outgoing and friendly than it was on the Island Princess.
Great balcony but sometimes loud footsteps could be heard on the deck above.
