I was not prepared for the cold weather and very rough seas leaving out of NY. I usually sail out of Miami. The seas were so rough that they blocked off the upper outside decks, which I usually like to walk. Passengers were getting seasick. especially on the return trip to NY. It was as bad as I have seen even when sailing during Katrina. The first two days are not warm enough for sunning on deck, but there was plenty to do in the ship. The Jewel was nicely layed out, and different from the Pearl that I had been on recently. I did not miss the bowling alley or ice skaing rink. There were more bands and lounges on this ship, that allowed for relaxation and listening pleasure. This was a Nickleodeon cruise and there were 600 kids on board. There were great activities for the kids, and they were very well behaved, I thought. My granddaughter enjoyed all the tween activities and made many friends. The garden cafe was not as crowded on this ship and there were plenty of tables available. The MDR's were wonderful, with very attentive waiters. Love the freestyle concept. I did not eat at any specialty restaurants this cruise. The Blue Lagoon is a great place for comfort foods and we made use of that a lot!Our room was comfortable, but the room steward only made 2 towel animals, and was very lax with cleaning the room. He appeared rushed, and didn't remove any dirty cups, or dishes at all. The rooms on this ship are sparsely appointed, and not at all like i am used to on other ships. In fact, when we won a trivia contest, I was informed that NCL cut out giving prizes because its too expensive!! We only can collect points now to redeem for a deck of cards or a keychain. They also cut out little treats for Silver lattitudes guests due to expense. (they told me that). The shows were great, better than I have seen before, and varied. The pools were heated, and there was always room to swim. No problem finding deck chairs, or a place to sit. (when it warmed up). Great Stirrup Cay was excellent. Lots to do, wonderful beach, great food. It was a very rocky tender ride, though.I am also booked on this same ship in July, and will not have to deal with the cold weather, will take dramamine, and book excursions in Nassau. Also will be able to see the shows I missed due to rocky seas!
