This is our 4th time cruising, our first with Royal Caribbean. We are three couples in our early 40's. This was a grown ups only cruise..we left the kids at home. My DH and I flew into San Juan on Thursday night, at the airport we did need to show our baggage claim tickets so keep them handy. Leaving the airport was very easy, we got right into a taxi line and took a taxi to Marriot Stellaris Resort.(the cab fare was 17$ plus a dollar a bag) We had gotten the hotel off of priceline for 130$ a night. I thought the hotel was beautiful. They offered to upgrade us to a pool view with two beds..I made a silly comment about wanting one bed, so they gave us one bed with a city view. The room was very nice and I was surprised to see we had a balcony. After seeing the beautiful view of the pool and ocean though, I was wishing I had taken the beautiful view with two beds! (All of our group got the hotel off of priceline and they automatically give you two beds,we were all able to get one bed. We also went back to priceline and added a second night after deciding to go a day earlier, we were able to combine our rooms so we didn't have to check out/back in). On Friday, we took a cab to Old San Juan, it was $15. We toured both forts and walked around OSJ. We had lunch at Barrachina's, which was good. WE also toured the Barcardi rum factory. We had to take a water taxi and then a taxi to get to the factory, personally, I thought the tour was kind of boring and since I am not much of a rum drinker, wasn't all that interested. It took about 2 hours out of our day to do the tour, I wouldn't do it again. Back at our hotel, we met up with our friends and ate dinner at Tijuana's..it was awesome. I highly recommend it. There are a lot of places to eat right across the street from the hotel. On Embarkation day, we checked out of the hotel at 11 am and took a cab to the port. The cabbie charged us $15 per couple, which I think may have been too much, but we didn't want to argue. We got in line and everything was very smooth, we were on the ship by 11:45. The ship was empty, we ate lunch at the Windjammer and got chairs by the pool. We had MTD, but since we were a group of 6 we had a standing reservation every night at 6:00. We had a great table right by the window. At 1:00 we were able to get into our room. We had a balcony on the 8th floor. I was very excited, as this was our first balcony. Unfortunately, with such a port heavy cruise we didn't use it very much at all.The Cruise director, Ricky Martin was very entertaining. We went to a few shows, the welcome aboard show and the stage to screen..they were good..we also did the piano bar one night, Matt Yee was pretty good..alot of that program really depends on audiance. We enjoyed the night we went, but didn't go back.Ports: In St. Thomas we went to Secret Harbour. Beautiful with really good snorkeling. This was actually the best snorkeling we had all week. We ate lunch there and had some drinks. St. Croix- we went to Sandcastle beach, we took the cab for $3 pp each way. Very easy. It was a very windy day, so we just walked along the beach and enjoyed the sun from our chairs. The Rum punch is very strong..they had a great banana pinacoldaAngiqua- we were going to shop a little first, but I didn't care for how aggressive the people were, we went to the authorized taxi stand and took a cab to Sandhaven. Beautiful beach..and beautiful water. No snorkeling here. They did have horseback riding and jet skis..we were so early, arriving around 10 am that we were the first ones on the beach. We rented chairs and an umbrella and ate lunch. Our cab driver came back for us at 2. We did have friends who did the ziplining through the ship. Unfortunately, they had a horrible experience. The ziplining company took walk off's from the ship and ended up having way to many people. Out of 11 ziplines, they did 4 and the ship had to wait for them. They did end up getting some of their money back.Dominica- we reserved a tour with Bumpiing Tours. We did Roseau Valley wet tour and had Calvin as our guide. He was great. At the Falls and Titou gorge all of the tour guides really help everyone. It seemed like whenever anyone was struggling a guide would appear from no where to help. We felt very safe and very much enjoyed this beautiful island.Grenda-we did the Carib sail and snorkel through the ship. It was fun. Your basic snorkel then beach time. Grand Anse beach was beautiful.Overall, the ship was beautiful. We all thought is was the cleanest ship we had been. Never seemed crowded. We were almost always able to find a chair. All of the food was really good. Getting around in all of the ports was really easy. You can not go wrong with this ship and itinerary
