This was our second time on the Golden to Hawai'i. We love Hawai'i and cruising is the best way to get there. The 4 days at sea each way are pure relaxation. The cruise staff offers many different activities to keep you as busy as you want to be. We participated in the ukulele lessons, hula lessons, lei making and lots of trivia. My favorite activity was the ukulele lessons. Dave the cruise director gives the free lessons and has about 50 ukulele available to loan. It is obvious this is a labor of love for him. They also sell ukuleles on board. These are real instrument quality ukuleles not the cheap souvigner ones you get at the ABC stores. When cruise director Dave was not availabe for the lessons Dave from the group Elua took over. Different style but just as much fun. I first took the ukulele lessons in March 08 on the Golden and became hooked. I brought my own with me this trip and even performed the last night in the passenger talent show. Note to Princess this should be moved up a day or two so it can be on the cruise DVD.In the dining room, service was excellent. We had early seating dining as we do not like to wait for tables. (Our one and only NCL cruise the lack of assigned dining was the downfall.) Food was average to good by cruise ship standards. We stuck to the dining room for most breakfast and lunches. Again service was usually great. Our room was adequate. We had three people in a standard balcony room. Typical tiny shower and not much space in the room but then we spent very little waking time in the room. The room steward was very attentative to our needs.Weather was a bit chilly at night. For the MUTS they laid out blankets for people to use. For two days on the way back the seas were glass smooth. It was almost erie.Shows were good. I enjoyed Noodles Levinstine. The singers and dancers are OK. Not great but OK. Sometimes it looked like they were lip syncing the songs. One time the piano player got up from the piano but it kept playing.Public areas are OK. I wish there was more non smoking areas. Princess and the other cruise lines need to reduce the price on the photos the intrusive photographers take. $20 for a sheet is too much. Since they print them all out anyway if they cut the price in half they would sell at least 3 times as much giving them more revenue without increasing costs.I would cruise on the Golden again in a heartbeat espicially if Dave is still the cruise director. My only wish is they add Kona back into the itinerary.
