Ship Facts: Carnival Splendor Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Carnival Splendor Deck Plans
Clean Ship, Nice Decor
We took the 3/20 cruise that left Long Beach ont he Splendor. There was a major storm so our ship left like 3-4 hours later than it was suppposed to. We were supposed to stop 2 days in Cabo and one day in Puerto Vallarta. Due to the late departure we were told that we were not going to be able to stop in Cabo for one of the days. What this meant is that we lost a day where the weather would have been real warm, which is a big deal. There was no reason why we could not have made it to Cabo on time. The ship then travelled at a turtle speed to Cabo. The reason I know that we could have easily made it to Cabo on time is because we left Puerto Vallarta which is way farther away from L.A. than Cabo and we made it back to L.A. with two sea days no problem. Anyway something was up with that who knows the true story, maybe Carnival saved some gas money or maybe everyone spent more money stating ont he ship. Five days at sea was not that fun. The last 30 hours was so rough that I could not even get out of bed I was so sick. Of course that is not their fault but it would have been nice to have that extra day they took away from us in Mexico.

The entertainment was good. The last night the show Vroom was awesome. The entertainment was not as good as some other ships I have been on. No acrobats, comedians just okay, no jugglers. It was actually kind of a boring ship.

In the past our waiters have been so sweet that we took pictures with thema nd tipped them extra. Our waiter Miguel was so mean that everyone at the table was afraid to ask him for anything. He would snap at you and let you know he was busy if you asked him for anything. Interesting that at the end of the cruise they did not even ask you to fill out a comment card. Never have I been on a cruise where they did not want you to fill out comment cards.

They have a huge screen out by the pool so you can watch movies under the stars. First they play like the CNN news in the morning..well we can see that on our T-V screen. They have a movie like at 5PM or maybe like 7PM some lame kid movie. It would be nice if after dark, maybe around 10PM or 10:30 if they could play like a PG or PG-13 movie that someone would want to watch. Are'nt most kids in bed at that time? We never watched one movie ont he screen and we thought that was a real bonus to have that on the ship.

The food was pretty good. The buffet was okay, breakfast was nothing to write home about. The Mongolian bar was incredible. The dinners in the evening in the Gold Pearl were delicious. The lobster was really good and the steaks were cooked to perfection.

I am not usually this negative about a cruise ship but I really did not enjoy this cruise. Oh, yeah forgot to add that our balcony cabin was seriously sitting right above the band playing in the casino below. For the first two nights we could not even hear the T-V or talk. The band played until like 1AM. FInally after two days of calling they moved us to deck 10 where it was quiet. We were happy about that.

If I had to pinpoint the most negative thing it would be that we realy wanted to be in the warm weather and we could have had 3 nice warm days in Mexico but they took one of those days away. The sea days all but one were pretty cold and real windy. Why go like a turtle to Mexico (it was the most leisure speed you have ever seen, couldnt event tell you were on the water) and stay in the cold weather? At least they could have booked toward Mexico and then been leisure so it would have been warm. They had their own agenda, not sure what it was.
