Feb. 28th - March 15th, fourteen day Panama Canal cruise from FL to LA on the Island. Embarkation: Port Everglades, Ft. Lauderdale, FLTook a hotel shuttle to the port, dropped or luggage and a case of wine at the curb, were in our room within 30 minutes. Cabin:We were in room A337, balcony. Room was ready for us when we arrived. We had a wonderful room steward, Luney, who took care of us the whole two weeks. Dining:We used Anytime dining and the buffet a couple of times. In the dining room we never waited for a table, no matter what time we went. Luck I guess. We did notice lines at other times. Wait service in the dining room was ok. Servers seem to be assigned to many tables to give really great service. About half way through the cruise we discovered Thareeya, who was perfect. We continued to ask for the same table every night after, and had a wonderful dining experience. We were guests at the Chef's dinner one night with Executive Chef Michael Borns. Extra cost but probably the best experience we had on the ship. Absolutely the best dining experience we have ever had! Food in the dining room was good to very good. Some nights better than others! The buffet food was OK to good, lots of options, although there were times I went through checking out what was being offered and left for the grill. We used room service every morning for coffee on our balcony, very fast and cheerful service. Don't call for it if you are not ready to answer the door. We also did the balcony champagne breakfast while crusing Lake Gatun. What a wonderful breakfast in a beautiful place. Entertainment: We felt the entertainment was fabulous, especially the production shows. The quality of the singers and dancers were second to none. We tended to sit in the first few rows to get the complete experience and really enjoyed them. I have only a couple of complaints, and the Universe Lounge is one of them. We were there an hour early to assure we had a good seat for the shows. If you were not there that early, you either had a lousy seat or none at all. Princess should have added additional shows or scheduled the popular ones in the Theater. I felt sorry for those getting there even 30 minutes early and not being able to be seated. The Ship: The ship was actually in pretty good shape. All areas were clean and well kept. I did not really notice the ship size being any different that the larger ships. Princess seems to keep to the same layout with all their ships. Now, to my second complaint. We tend to like spending time at the back of a ship. The deck there, with a smaller pool and good service, is quieter and more intimate. We find the main pool to be noisy, especially with MUTS going nearly all the time, and more crowded. But this ship, along with the Coral, has turned this area into their Sanctuary. The day we decided to try it, there was only one couple physically there, but all lounges with any shade at all, were reserved by people for the entire cruise. The only option was to be in the sun all day. We tended to use our balcony and found a table in the Lotus pool area that accommodated our party. But, this decision by Princess will probably cause us not to use either of these ships again. Ports:The ship went to Aruba, Cartagena, Panama Canal, Panama City, Costa Rica, Acapulco, and Cabo. Other than the Canal, which was a great experience, we only did two private excursions. In Panama we used My Friend Mario to visit an Embera Indian Village. Fun day, I highly recommend him and his tour guides. The second excursion was zip lining with Adventure Park and Hotel Vista Golfo in Costa Rica. This was a fantastic day, zip lining over 11 waterfalls. Conclusion:Thank you Princess for such a wonderful vacation. The service and the friendliness of the staff was very sincere and added to the overall experience. It is amazing how every employee, no matter if they were serving you in some way or just working on the ship, they had a glad to be here attitude. Happy Sailing, next cruise, Tahiti.
