2. The food was very good-my only prob;ems was that the restaurants were too expensive. Cagney's, the steakhouse, was good however for $118 ( the 4 of us) it wasnt worth it. Also they asked for an extra $10 for the specialties on the menu. I asked for an additional item from the "regular" selections and they said no. The Teppanyaki restaurant was crowded and very noisy although the food was good. Our Teppanyaki chef was barely above sleeping-there were other chefs who were much more entertaining. The main dining rooms had food that was as good as the specialty restaurants. On a positive note, there was unlimited lobster on the "lobster night". It was also disappointing the the pizza/hot dog/hamburger area by the pool was limited. Also, there was a food area by the adult pool which was barely ever open. The buffets had good food the menu never changed.
3. The ship setup was just ok. There was no true atrium. Also the setup made you have to walk through the casino to get to many places. The pools were ridiculously small. The pool in the adult area was really a bathtub! There were 5 hot tubs which were always crowded. 5 hot tubs for 4000 people was not enough. We have been on ships half the size of the Epic which had more hot tubs and pools the same size. The hot tub temperatures were poorly regulated. There was a hot tub that was so hot that one could have been scalded. Other hot tubs were cold. Also there was no supervision. People had drinks and food in the tubs. There were children that weren't watched ( a dangerous situation) and the crew said nothing. There were "exclusive" areas on the ship that were only for the highest suites. I have never seen areas of the ship sectioned off like that. My husband LOVED the soft ice cream machines which were plentiful. He gained 5 pounds eating the soft serve!
4. The entertainment was very good. Blue Man Group was excellent and a must see. The Circ de Sole was disappointing. First of all it wasnt free and you were forced to buy the dinner. You had to buy a meal which was mediocre and limited. The tent area for Circ was very small and the performance was not nearly as good as we have seen on other ships. Every venue was crowded. The dance clubs were not to par compared to other smaller ships.
In conclusion, the EPIC is a big ship with tons of people in a limited space. NCL chose to pack as many people on the ship without increasing th size of the common areas . They also nickel and dime you to an extreme. Just about everything is extra.
