Good week of fun

Sail Date: March 2011
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Baltimore

This was our first cruise and we didn't quite know what to expect. Further, we were travelling with our two kids (5 and 1). Turns out that all of us had a great deal of fun and relaxation. So much that all of us hated getting off the ship.

The embarkation process was swift and easy. The only drawback was that the luggage was not delivered till late in the evening (7 or 8 pm). They should have set that expectation upfront. But it did not matter much as we were carrying some spare clothes in our hand luggage.

The room was nice - not too big but good enough considering a ship. The furniture and amenities were all nice and clean. Our steward was very good as well and kept the place nice and clean (despite the attempts of our 1 yr old). They supplied a crib as well which worked out well. The room had a lot of closets. Advice - Take smaller bags that will fit under the bed when unpacked. There is not a lot of table space in the room and we struggled a bit when we ordered More room service. Plus the balcony was not much use as the weather was cold enough in the first few days to keep us in.

The food - we enjoyed all of it. We had some special orders and they were prompt in delivering it. The one day that I was not feeling well, they even came up to my room to deliver the special order food. Desert was good as well. But most of all our waiter was truly exceptional. I have never seen better service. He was prompt in service and after the first day had our drinks waiting for us at the table. He kept our daughters entertained and took special care of them. We were very impressed. The food in the Lido deck was good as well.

The swimming pools were a little too cold to use the first few days. The hot tubs were too crowded - but we did manage to get our turns.

The entertainment options were great both for the kids and us. My daughter spent a lot of time at Camp Carnival and had a great time there. The options were mostly free except for a spa party and port hours + late nights. The entertainment options for us were great too. We loved the casino, shopping, the music shows, movies, comedy club etc.

Debarkation was a bit slow. I would advice to do the self select option (depending on the deck that you stayed at) - that is faster. But make your choice looking at the debarkation schedule provided on the last day. For some decks the wait time makes it better to do the assisted de boarding.

Excursions were great as well. Though shopping at the Bahama ports was a little disappointing. If you want to bring back some small gifts the fun shops in the ship are a lot better and cheaper than the port shops. Alcohol is definitely very cheap at the fun shop (only available when you are about to get off the ship). Freeport was a little cheaper than Nassau.

Net net the cruise was a lot of fun and we would definitely do it again. Less
