Good time

Sail Date: February 2011
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan

We sailed on this ship in November, 2010, on the classic itinerary..liked those islands much better.

This was a good cruise...getting on the ship in San Juan took all of 20 minutes and we were finished at 1:30pm..had all day to relax, unpack and enjoy the ship.

Had a mini suite ( same as last time)...this cabin is starting to show some wear and tear...had some trouble with the commode flushing, but not an issue. Had a great cabin steward ( Olimpio )..very cheerful and accommodating, always had extra ice and fresh beach towels.

The food was much better when we sailed in November. Had dinner at Sabatini's one night and the entree was simply awful..I don't know what they did to the lobster but it tasted foul and had an awful sauce on top...we skipped the entree and also dessert that night.

Had only one other dinner in the dining room and it was quite good...rest of the time we ate in the Cafe Caribe or Horizon...it was satisfactory, but nothing to More write home about.

I love the the upbeat and cheerful attitude of the entire crew on this ship...they are the best.

Had a great comedy show one night ( Phil Tag )..the other comedian was mediocre.

The hypnotist was boring....we spend so much time staying busy onshore that we rarely stay up too late at night.

Did an excursion from the ship in Dominica...would not recommend it..we drove forever to get to the Emerald Falls and was disappointed . Also disappointed in the black sand beach at Mero....it was pathetic. Generally we book our own exursions but since we jumped on this cruise at the last minute, we were limited.

Grenada was a joy..took the water taxi to Grand Anse Beach...was lovely as was the town and people.

We loved the upbeat attitude in Aruba and also the beach..we were the first ones there at Eagle Beach in the morning and found a load of gorgeous shells...pretty white sand.

Bonaire was the most beautiful clear water I have ever seen...beach is rocky and hard to enter but once in the water it is great.

Of course, St. Thomas is always a nice place...went to Emerald Beach this time..was quiet, nice water, watched the diving birds.

I will always recommend Princess because they really do try so hard to please...everyone does.

Will probably jump on again at Thanksgiving... Less

Cabin review: Caribbean Princess Mini-Suite with Balcony Dolphin D528

Cabin D528 Port side cabin...no noise, good location for elevator access, nice sized balcony Little bit of wear and tear on the carpet....starting to show its age. Great mini suite..has two tv's ( why you need two tx's, I will never know ) nice sofa,,,bed was very comfortable. Had extra pillows provided by request. Refrig is not very cold...room was nice and cool. Last tiem we were on D501, same ship, and the cabin was always hot. We were pleased with the cabin and our steward ( Olimpio)

Port and Shore Excursions

Lively town, good food, easy to get around on the public transportation bus system We had a great day at Eagle Beach just across from the Amsterdam Manor....water was clear and lovely. Sugar sand was great. Got there early in the morning, walked and found shells which I took home. So many shops in the town.....got quite hot in the afternoon so headed back to the ship around 4pm

If you are a diver or a snorkle fan, this the place for you. We went to the Bonaire Plaza Resort....it is a joke...narrow beach with very sharp rocks and coral beds to cross in order to enter the water...plenty of fish to see but an awful beach. Poor accommodations. The town is not very well maintained and rather dirty. Would not care to visit here again.

They call this the garden island and they are not kidding. Seemed like we rode forever up and down and around hills and there was very little development. Must be a good driver on these roads as on all the islands. The black sand beach was a disappointment...very crude , in the middle of a run down town, the sand is hot and sticks to your feet, the water is unlike the usual Caribbean....chairs lined up on a narrow beach...makes one feel like you are on display for the natives.. Emerald pool and rain forest was nice but we had seen other rain forests that are better... Not an island I would want to revisit.

Lovely island with a nice ambiance. took the water taxi from the port over to Grand Anse Beach and the Spice Market...spice market on the beach is a disappointment but the beach was divine....lovely water and beach. Took a taxi tour and had a nice time...the town is loaded with history..neat tunnel through the middle of town...lots of spices to be had in the port area, but back home, I found the cinnamon to be "old" or less flavorful than what we buy in the store.

Stayed before and after the cruise in San Juan. After the cruise, stayed at the Conrad Condado..it was wonderful. There is protected area there on the beach ( public beach ), where you can snorkel and the water is totally clear and beautiful...lots of fish. Good location...take the bus to Old San Juan for 75 cents...go early in the morning when the streets are empty. It is a lovely place...visit the fort and el morro..lots to see and do in San Juan. Would definitley stay at the Conrad Condado again..they are great.

I like St. Thomas. Good prices on watches and jewelry and also the duty free liquor...they always deliver it right to your cabin on the last night. Always bring extra luggage to carry back the bottles. Magens Bay Beach is lovely...Emerald Beach is just at the end of the airport runway but other than that, it is lovely...close to the port , clear, clean water, nice sand and not a lot of people. Great view on a tour of the island...just a good place.
