Great Ship

Sail Date: February 2011
Destination: Asia
Embarkation: Singapore

Contrary to previous reviews of this ship, I found very little to warrant a "tired" label that was given to this ship. The deck plan is amazing, better than any other ship I have experienced. What a special perk to have an indoor swimming pool and deck area for sailings in bad weather! The buffet area was adequate and the seating limited only on the day of the embarkation lunch. Our lowest level oceanview stateroom was at least 30% bigger than any other comparable room we have had previously. The bathroom could fit 2 if needed.

The passengers, a mix of Asian groups minus the group that caused so many of the previous complaints, were all pleasant and very polite.

The food was just ok. The Asian dishes were lacking in authentic flavors, which was a disappointment. Some Asian dishes were present at the buffet for breakfast service ( some Indian dishes and congee). A breakfast Chinese noodle dish would have been welcome. I was pleasantly surprised with the salad bar More that is offered in the main dining room at lunch. The selections were varied and tasty--all to select and have the chefs add to your bowl.

One serious problem occurred, however. The night before reaching Phuket, there was an announcement that we should use ship's time rather than local time which turned out to be one hour earlier. This was in no way stated in the itinerary on the web site or given onboard. A time of 8 am. start of tender to shore and 8 pm sail away was written, and all arrangements for private tours and meetings were made on this timing. In fact, we were able to tender in at 7 am local time and needed to catch the last tender by 6:30 pm local time. There was no reason for this change, other than the ship's personnel did not want people to change their clocks. The ship anchored in the bay so no dock facilities were used. Several large groups were very inconvenienced by being held up on the beach waiting for their later pickup. Also, the earlier time to be back to the ship was a serious problem. I notified the corporate office of this, and they promise a review. Less

Cabin review: Legend of the Seas Large Oceanview Stateroom Deck 2 2548

2548--very large, exceptionally quiet, no anchor or motor noise, quiet corridor.

Port and Shore Excursions

We took the ship's excursion, which was adequate to experience some of the city. I saw no taxis at the dock for private use; however, they might have arrived later since some were present when we returned.

We needed to walk a fair distance to reach the area where private taxis were able to park. A heads-up by previous cruisers would have been useful in this regard. We were able to grab one on his way to the port and had a decent tour with a stop at a nice beach for a good price.
