A Pleasant Cruise on Paradise

Sail Date: February 2011
Destination: Mexican Riviera
Embarkation: Los Angeles

This was our 8th cruise, 4th with Carnival. We chose this cruise because of an impossible to resist price, we hadn't been to Catalina and would use only 4 vacation days. We, DW and I, drove over from PHX in the morning, arriving around 12:30pm, parked ($15pd) and got into the security line. This would be smoother if there were more than 2 scanning devices. Check-in, photo and on-board around 1:15pm. We brought a 12 pak of Coke and 12 pak of water on-board through carry-on.

Rooms were ready before 2pm. We had a room with 2 portholes on the Riviera deck. Plenty of room and storage for 2. Our steward, Tomi, took very good care of us. Only downside to this cabin was when the bow thrusters were engaged it was 'noisy'.

Dining and food were fine. We had 6pm seating in the Elation DR with Rey from Honduras. Excellent service. Lido DR is fine if you avoid the 'rush' hours.

Room service was prompt and food was delivered hot. They also delivered our bar requests. More

Entertainment and activities on-board were plentiful. The 2 comedians were good and the adult shows were very funny. Plenty of trivia, Bingo, Casino, Ice Carving, Towel Folding, Hairy-Chest, etc.

Crew were friendly and smiling. Guest Services resolved an issue quickly and professionally. Plenty of first-time cruisers and families. Other passengers we spoke with were enjoying their cruise. We met other CC members and they were having fun as well.

Disembarkation was smooth. We were scheduled for 10 am. We were off the ship, collected our luggage, through Customs and leaving the garage at 11.

Overall this is a nice cruise. Although we prefer 7-12 day sailings, this was a nice work-week off. This is a good cruise for first-timers because it doesn't sail too far from shore and there is very little, if any, ship movement to feel. We would recommend this cruise as well as Carnival for an enjoyable cruise experience. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Paradise Interior Empress R7

Ample room for 2. Clean, King bed, unusual placement of corner life-jacket storage container. Portholes provide limited but interesting views. You will hear the bow thrusters in use when docking. Other than that, no noises or bumps in the night. 3 standing closets, safe, table chair, lcd tv. 1 outlet in room, 1 outlet in bathroom. Large shower, no tub. No refrigerator but room steward kept us stocked with fresh ice.

Port and Shore Excursions

Very pleasant and quaint town. Easy to walk around. Bikes and golf carts available for rent. CASH ONLY!!! Most shops and stores don't open until 11am. Short (5min) tender ride from ship to shore. Passengers were doing everything from snorkel/scuba to submarine rides and parasailing. We saw dolphins and a sea lion in the waters as we went from ship to shore and back.

I like Mexico and Ensenada is still a somewhat sleepy Mexican port. Usual curios to buy, people are friendly, easy to walk around the town. Clean ladies facilities at McD's, Hussong's store and the Hussong's Cantina. This visit was scheduled from 9a-9p. Weather got chilly around 5:30pm so we headed back to the ship. Others we spoke with enjoyed La Bufadora (the Blowhole) and the inexpensive food and drink in the local restaurants. DW and I felt safe during our visit and enjoyed our time here.
