This was our 8th cruise, 4th with Carnival. We chose this cruise because of an impossible to resist price, we hadn't been to Catalina and would use only 4 vacation days. We, DW and I, drove over from PHX in the morning, arriving around 12:30pm, parked ($15pd) and got into the security line. This would be smoother if there were more than 2 scanning devices. Check-in, photo and on-board around 1:15pm. We brought a 12 pak of Coke and 12 pak of water on-board through carry-on.
Rooms were ready before 2pm. We had a room with 2 portholes on the Riviera deck. Plenty of room and storage for 2. Our steward, Tomi, took very good care of us. Only downside to this cabin was when the bow thrusters were engaged it was 'noisy'.
Dining and food were fine. We had 6pm seating in the Elation DR with Rey from Honduras. Excellent service. Lido DR is fine if you avoid the 'rush' hours.
Room service was prompt and food was delivered hot. They also delivered our bar requests.
Entertainment and activities on-board were plentiful. The 2 comedians were good and the adult shows were very funny. Plenty of trivia, Bingo, Casino, Ice Carving, Towel Folding, Hairy-Chest, etc.
Crew were friendly and smiling. Guest Services resolved an issue quickly and professionally. Plenty of first-time cruisers and families. Other passengers we spoke with were enjoying their cruise. We met other CC members and they were having fun as well.
Disembarkation was smooth. We were scheduled for 10 am. We were off the ship, collected our luggage, through Customs and leaving the garage at 11.
Overall this is a nice cruise. Although we prefer 7-12 day sailings, this was a nice work-week off. This is a good cruise for first-timers because it doesn't sail too far from shore and there is very little, if any, ship movement to feel. We would recommend this cruise as well as Carnival for an enjoyable cruise experience.
