Beautiful Ship Poor Service
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
This was our 20th cruise and 4th Royal Caribbean cruise. We have cruised with Princess 15 times and Holland America once. After becoming elite members with Princess, my husband and I were looking for a ship that offers more to do and we have found this with Royal Caribbean. We have cruised on the Radiance, the Mariner, the Liberty and in February the Oasis. We have enjoyed all the other ships with Royal and are returning to the Radiance in August to do Alaska.
Now on to the Oasis. The Oasis is a beautiful ship and the Owners Suite is like being at home. The room is wonderful, the furniture is quite nice, the47-52 inch TV great, the bathroom quite large and the bed extremely comfortable. So much so that I have ordered their pillow top mattress pad for my bed at home. The balcony is also great with a table for 4 and 2 loungers. One could easily live in this space. There is so much storage space that 2 people could never use it all. The areas on the ship are also great. We never More felt crowded even though the ship was sailing with 6000 passengers. The Royal Promenade can hold up to 4000 with little or no problem. The pools are nice and the Solarium was much larger and nicer then I had expected. The Boardwalk and Central Park were of nice size and each had its purpose. The Boardwalk had the Carousel, Agua Theater, Johnny Rockets, and Seafood Shack. Central Park had Chops, 150 Central Park, Giovanni's and Park Cafe. The food in these restaurants was quite good.
The entertainment was good to excellent. We did not care for Hairspray, but the actors were great. Come Fly With Me had great acrobatics and gymnasts, but came across weird. The comedy club was funny, but only held about 80, so you definitely have to book ahead. The ice skating show was outstanding. The zipline was fun and pretty busy, but had times with no lines, so don't be concerned in finding time to use it. The guest entertainer was just ok.
Now where the ship had a real problem. THE SERVICE. Our room steward was new and in training frequently. We did not even see her until day 3 in the afternoon. One day after taking a shower I had to dry myself off with a hand towel, because she did not replace the bath towels when she removed them I usually ask to keep extra hand and bath towels in the room at all times, but had not seen her to tell her. We also got our laundry back late. The dining room food was just ok and the menu was just fair. Unless you ordered your steak medium well it could walk off the plate. The service in the dining room was also quite slow. THe food in the buffet was also lacking. So even though the ship is beautiful, we will not be travelling on the Oasis or Allure again. This seemed to be shared with almost all the other passengers we talked with. Less
