Ship Facts: Explorer of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Explorer of the Seas Deck Plans
No outside seating for dining or grills
This was our first time on Royal Caribbean. The ship was beautiful, but had no outside grills or outside seating for dining. We love sitting outside the casual buffets on ships to dine as soon as we hit the warmer weather. We love sitting by the pool and grabbing a burger or something quick from the grill. This ship only had the outside bars, but no food. There were plenty of seats indoors which would be great if you were in a colder climate.

The staff was wonderful. We really enjoyed Chris the Cruise Director.

The food was great, our location in the dining room was awful though. Table 290. We weren't actually in the dining room. We were in a small room off the dining room. They didn't even have the lighting set. All the overhead lights were on and the chandelier type and wall sconces weren't on for the first couple of days. The work station was open to our table and it was like we were in the kitchen. They would unload the silverware and put it away while we were dining. I'm not usually hard on anyone on a cruise, but we wound up skipping the dining room and eating in the Windjammer each night. The last night we went to Portofino's which was incredible. The service was so professional and we are still talking about our meals.

Each Cruiseline has it's differences, but to me the ship and ports are what make a cruise. Our ports were so nice. In Dominican Republic we chose the Cayo Lavantado excursion. What a paradise it was!! We had an incredible day. There were serious problems with the tenders, which I hope Royal Caribbean will address, but they did make it up to us by giving 50% refunds on our tickets. We thought that they handled our situation very well. The manager was in the Promenade addressing everyone's concerns. I actually felt bad for him.

Labadee was great for adults as well as children. It was a beautiful location and everyone enjoyed every minute of it. We had four people in our party that did the zip line and loved it.

We have been to San Juan and St. Thomas before, but enjoyed them again as well.

All in all, it was a great cruise, not crazy about the ship for a trip to the Caribbean though. Also prefer going out of Manhattan than Bayonne.
