Fairly new cruisers, 4 of my family members and I sailed on the Adventure of the Seas on Feb 7-13th out of San Juan. My parents (mid 50s) and my sisters (30s)were excited to be travelling without partners or kids... when would you have a chance to do that again?!?
My sisters and I stayed at the new Sheraton Casino which was literally a 2 minute drive to the port. You can see the ships lined up... remember this is NOT the Old Sheraton in Old San Juan but the Sheraton by the convention centre. It was a terrific hotel with an amazing infinity pool. The casino was also fun and helped prep us for the fun we were about to have. We got in late (around 12am) so we were zonked and the new, clean hotel was perfect. We stayed on 2500 points and $65 dollars (plus the $15 resort fee).
Day 1 - San Juan - we arrived later than we had planned but that was all for the best as there were some delays in getting the passengers off the ship. We arrived at 11am but didn't board until after 12:30pm. Once the line started moving it was a quick process. We had a big breakfast so instead of heading for the Windjammer we went straight to the pool and had the entire pool to ourselves for close to 2 hours. It was amazing and the sun was bright and strong (we Canadians just love going down south and escaping our winter!) Our parents met up with us later and we started exploring the ship and took in the Promenade and checked into our rooms. Our parents had a balcony on the 6th floor, it was a handicapped room which they just by chance obtained when we saw prices drop 2 weeks before our sail date. They paid for a small outside but instead got a double size room with a double balcony for the same price. The only complaint they had being on the 6th floor was the lack of glass in the balcony. Our room was a Family Oceanview Stateroom at the front of the ship (9200). Since there were 3 of us we wanted this because of the bunk beds. The room was definitely dated and the bunk beds were kind of scary but there was tons of room for the 3 of us and 2 windows out the front were really nice. We had already checked out our dining room arrangement just for the 5 of us and we had an amazing table by the window on the 4th floor. We had Daniel and Jose as our Waiter and Assistant Waiter respectively. We chose standard 6pm dining and it worked well for us.
Cabin 9200 was spacious and had two large windows at the front. The bunk beds were a bit scary and off on their own with an ugly curtain but the room's space and view made up for it all. Be aware, however, that being at the front of the ship creates a lot of movement.
