Went with a group of friends ranging from our late 20's-mid 30s. Originally we thought about booking Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas because it was a new ship, lots of things to do and heard so many good reviews about it..but we decided to go for the NCL Epic because it seemed more value for the price and also we heard it was geared to having a "posh" and "electric" nightlife.
Boy were we wrong! Seemed like most things were shutting down at 11pm, except of course the casino was open. We ended up gambling more on this ship then any other because there was nothing else going on at night! The layout of where the casino is is just awful! The smell of smoke is apparent everywhere you go!
Our first impressions of the ship were..wow what an ugly looking ship! lol! I mean it is not at all appealing to the eye with that giant "hat" in the front of the ship! Inside the ship was more appealing, better then Carnival's decor, which has to be the worst in the cruise industry! Embarkation was a breeze..nicely organized and on the ship within 30 minutes.
I am not a picky eater at all, but the food and the service in the dining room was the poorest out of all my previous cruises!Service was slow, the food was like eating at a golden corrals, if that! It seemed like the waiters didn't care how slow they served you, maybe if the food came out hot, it would have tasted better! We did try Le Bistro which was very good and the service was excellent! But it just seemed like another way of going into your pockets and getting more money out of you! Make the dining room food and service so bad, that passengers will go to the speciality restaurants and spend more money!
Entertainment--we did enjoy the blue man group. the comedian was good. But after 11pm, there was nothing else to do. NCL advertises itself as being the most chic and hip cruise line with a awesome nightlife..wrong! It was hard to find something to do every night...most of the time it was ending up back in the casino. The good thing is that we had a group so we always found some way to entertain ourselves.
The cabins--oh boy! Again..what a stupid design! Wave wall? The cabins felt tiny. And to have the toilet, shower and sink in the room? What?!! Seriously, they should fire whoever designed the ship! I am close to my friend, but to have the shower in the room and just a curtain in between...was just too intimate for me! Maybe if it was with a significant other, it would be ok, but not with a friend.
Overall, it wasn't a total disaster....our group had a good time because we made it fun for ourselves...not because NCL enhanced it with their subpar activities. I would not cruise on NCL epic again.
