First of all let me say that we had a good time on our cruise however there were issues to keep in mind. I want to give a full accounting so anyone who decides to take this ship (Carnival Triumph) that they will do so with open eyes.
Embarkation: We preregistered and embarkation was fast and easy.
Public Rooms: The overall ship was clean but there was a lot of disrepair. The ship needs an overhaul really. The deco was outdated but did not distract from the overall enjoyment. The windows were very dirty all over.
Cabin: We had an interior room and it was spacious enough to be comfortable. It was clean and our steward was excellent. There was plenty of room for everything to be stored.
Dining: We ate in the Paris dining only twice due to we did not take fancy clothes but on the last night the waiter advised that they are not strict about it and my polo style shirt and jeans would have been fine. Both of the waiters in the dining room remembered our intricacies from the first night we went there. Very good waiters.
The dining on the Lido deck was about as good as you can get at any cheap buffet. It was not something to write home about but was adequate. There were only about 5 stewards that were very good at keeping tables cleared and most of the time you had to wipe the tables again before using them for anything other than eating (usually ate on trays on the table).
There were a couple of drink machines that never worked and there were many times I had to go to multiple stations to get either ice or drinks due to them being empty. They did not keep anything full very fast.
The grill was pretty good but the pizza was sub-par. The deli was excellent. They need to keep the grill open longer and more often though.
Entertainment: The shows were all decent but the family comedy acts were great. The juggling/comedy act was the best and had everyone hurting from laughing so much. The magic show was 1/3 magic and 2/3 exotic dancing and was not appropriate for children and then they had an “R” rated show later that I wonder how it could have gotten “R' rating as the “family” friendly was “R” rated already. We did not go to the adult comedy shows but heard they were funny but crude.
The movie time on the deck was OK but there were parts of the screen that were not working and flashed. We even had a couple of times when the movie would stop and start over after about 15 minutes watching and then there was one time that the movie just stopped in the middle of the movie and started playing music and seascapes.
Service: I have mentioned above about most of the service and have to say it was sub par but not enough to make us have a bad time. When the movie stopped and did not start again we stopped some deck hands (dressed in white) and advised them and we got the “union” answer of “that's not my job and you need to get hold of guest services”. I think that they, knowing the ship and contacts, should have taken care of the problem immediately themselves or found the person that needed to take care of it.
The cruise overall was relaxing and fun and none of the negative points were enough to keep us from having fun on the trip.
