Emerald Princess Cruise Review by chelsea157: Fantastic Cruise

Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
Arrived two days early due to fear of bad weather. Usually plan only one day in advance. Stayed at Embassy Suites, however, would not choose them again. Very expensive (asked other travelers who had much cheaper rates at nearby hotels, and all of ours included transfers from ship to hotel, to port, to airport (though may have been the deal from Princess, breakfast also included. In any case, the suite is large, but very dated, and the rug was disgusting....many, many stains....ick. They did offer to move us, but we wore our shoes...the rooms were clean, however.
Long lines to board, but went quickly and on the ship pretty early (dropped off at the 12:00 time, so expected it.
Ship was prepared....did have to be served our food in line, possibly to prevent novovirus which might have been on cruise before. In the buffet, for two days, and had to ask for salt, pepper, and had to use the gell to clean hands, but if it stopped us from getting the flu (and it did) I was More grateful. After two days, went to serving yourself. The food was very good the entire trip...we did not eat in the main dining on formal nights, since my husband did not bring a long sleeve shirt, which they enforced. With 10 nights, didn't make a difference to us...the Caribe buffet was great and fancy, too.
We are pretty low key, so not much into the party at the pools or drinking, sorry. We did feel like the youngsters on the cruise, as there were many older, lovely people. If you are much younger, might not be as happy.
Entertainment was wonderful...from Cole Porter tunes to hip hop, to comedy magican to hysterical hypnotist. Wonderful!!!
Steward was fine, however if you have trouble getting a green light when opening your door, he had to go through the room next door and enter through balcony since the battery in door was dead....we were concerned we would miss a port excursion, but they fixed it while we were gone.
My husband did use the spa for a massage (hot stones) and just about crawled back to the room....pretty intense...and they got one on the beach at Princess Cays. FYI....in the first few hours on the ship, DO the treasure hunt...you will learn about the services and might be lucky....I won the massage worth $75.00!!!
Loved all ports and also Princess Cays....lots of free chaise lounges and great BBQ lunch...lovely.
Leaving the ship was orderly and well done. Bring a book, sit back and wait...quick trip to the airport....however we were there way before noon and could not check in until I think 3 hours before your flight, so long wait.
Overall, wonderful trip due to ship and fantastic port excursions that I booked with companies many cruise critics suggested on here or through Trip Advisor. Less

Cabin review: BAA255 Balcony
Our cabin was A255....do it again, would ask for something is 500s....this was on the 12th floor and easy to get to food, but lots of walking. Quiet hallway, good balcony, pretty standard for Princess ship.Read All Balcony (BA) Reviews >>
Port and Shore Excursions
Toured with firstname.lastname@example.org Good tour of the island, swam at Valley Church Beach...beautiful but difficult to swim...few people, but if you are not a strong swimmer, big dips and waves. Liked Nelson Dockyards, really liked Dow Hill Interpretive Center to learn about the history of the people there.
Toured with Glory Tours. Great city tour , flower forest, Bathsheba, and finished with Rockley (Accra) beach....very clean, wonderful swim time. Jim was able to grab food, nearby. I did enjoy learning abou this island and how they value education. Better standard of living on this island is evident.
Toured through Clay Plantation. Picked us up, and this was the only rainy day, but were kind enough to wait to begin outside tour when the rain stopped. The home had many artifacts, however, to me way too to many of different things ( since it is lived in, seeing a life size Barbie doll next to a 100 year old artifact is kind of strange). Beautiful surroundings...kind enough to prepare (asked us in advance)a sandwich for my husband who needs to eat at certain times. Loved the Brimstone fortress....would have spent more time there....then more city tour to other side of the island where the hotels are and made a stop to see the Caribbean on one site, the Atlantic on the other. Very good driver and sights.
Loved the Cosol Tour (also recommended highly on this site and Trip Advisor) Toured the island (LONG tour with hairpin turns, so if you have a bad back, it might be hard on you, but you would miss a wonderful time). Stopped to show the banana trees, hurricane damage, wonderful stop to eat delicious foods prepared to learn the culture, whole day was informative! Volcano was interesting Ended with an hour to swim at Jalousy beach (had to take a water taxi) which was fantastic to swim between the Pitons...easy to swim and loved this part.
This is a fantastic tour group!!!
By this time, tired of tours so took a cab ($6.00 pp/per way) to Morningstar beach by Marriot. 15 minute ride and beautiful beach. Saw a huge lizard by the beach to photo. Spent an hour and then back to shop right by terminal...lots of shops and luckily a pharmacy (since it is the Virgin Island, takes your insurance cards for your prescriptions, which we needed) Very efficient....Lots of places to spend your money, but looks pretty commercial ( a KMart and Wendys near terminal).
21st cruise, probably the best...
