The Best Celebrity ship

Sail Date: January 2011
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

We sailed on the Celebrity Eclipse on January 22, 2011. This was our first cruise on the Solstice Class ship although we have cruised extensively with Celebrity. We were completely awed by the beauty, cleanliness and functionality of this ship. The personnel were very friendly and although there were one or two lapses in stateroom maintenance, for the greater part we were exceptionally pleased.

The sky suite that we had was much larger than the sky suite on the Millenium class ships and was extremely well designed. There was so much storage space that I had empty drawers and cabinets. We did not see the veranda cabin up close, and that is the class that we usually take, but I'm hoping that it will similarly have excellent space.

The Theater was very comfortable and we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the entertainment--both the celebrity singers and dancers, and the two other entertainers.

We did a shore excursion in Cozumel called Salsa More and Salsa which I highly recommend to anyone who has previously been in Cozumel. We learned to make 6 Salsas with the Dancing Chefs, made and drank margaritas, and then learned to dance salsa. Great fun and well organized!

Overall, a great experience--personnel, ship design and cleanliness were the high points. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Eclipse Sky Suite Resort Deck (12) 2121

Great large cabin, large closets, plenty of storage space, quiet hallway, full bathroom with bathtub. However it was underneath the casual dining venue so in the morning you could hear chairs being dragged. If you are a light sleeper you might want to pick a sky suite on another floor if they are available.

Port and Shore Excursions

If you don't take a tour in Costa Maya, there is really nothing here. Especially when it rains as it did when we were here. If it is your first visit I recommend a tour to the ruins which we had previously enjoyed very much.

Cozumel is a shopping experience for those who want it and there are many opportunities for water sports. We did the Salsa and Salsa tour which was absolutely the best fun! Highly recommend!

Very interesting experience. The Island tour included visits to the Botanical gardens and a combined Butterfly garden and bird sanctuary. There were birds who had been rescued from abuse and who stay in the sanctuary without being caged (although a few are in cages because they are not friendly). Great guides in both places and this tour did not have any high pressure shopping stops!

My husband went snorkeling and said that it was as good as his snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef off Australia. Good guide and good equipment.
