Carnival Inspiration five night cruise going out of Tampa

Sail Date: January 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Tampa

Hi everyone;

We just needed a short break from our cold winter. We wanted to do the five night on the Destiny out of Miami, but settled on this cruise. This was our first cruise out of Tampa. We flew down the day before, 1/23/11 and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Rocky Point in Tampa. We got a nice cruise package that included airport pickup, transfer to the ship and a return transfer from the ship to the airport. The transfers all went well! We are VIP's w/Carnival and the Tampa port has a VIP area but it is not as easy to use as the one in Miami. We enjoyed the easier boarding and were on board in just a few minutes. The VIP area is two or three flights up from the ground floor and the terminal was very full when we got there.

We purchased a nice mid-ship cabin in Main deck. The cabin was fine and like all others on Fantasy size ships. There is lots of room for storage and our cabin steward kept the cabin clean and well stocked w/ice.

We had late seating More in the dining room. We were in the Carnivale dining seated at a table w/three ladies who we enjoyed seeing over the whole cruise. They were just such nice older ladies enjoying there cruise break. We have been in touch w/them and hope to fly down and see them next spring? The meals were just excellent! We had heard some bad things about the food but we enjoyed all the meals. The buffet was nice and we enjoyed the 24 hour pizza and ice cream bar.

We had drinks at night and they were fine. They were a little more costly but not what we call over priced. The overall service was just excellent! We were off the ship on 1/29/11 at just before 9AM and were at the airport before 10:00AM. Overall we rated this cruise as a 8+ out of 10! Very pleased. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Inspiration Oceanview Main M146

Cabin M146 on the Main deck! Nice cabin, mid-ship, very roomy! The steward did a good job of keeping it clean and well stocked w/ice, towels, anything we needed! This cabin is located between decks Rivera and Upper. It was quiet for sleeping. No noise from dining rooms or galleys. We picked this cabin as it was one floor above the area where tenders docked w/the ship for transfer to Grand Cayman, as the ship doesn't dock there. We only went down one flight of steps and we were on a tender. The shower was nice and we had lots of storage. We had excellent room service and maybe our good location made it easier for them to deliver room service to us? VERY pleased!

Port and Shore Excursions

One of our favorite ports! Kelli loves to shop down town and I spent way to much time at Fat Tuesday's which right off the pier. The drinks were so good that I needed a major nap before dinner that night! I really enjoyed my visit! Kelli went shopping and got some nice jewelery! She took a cab into town and was back to the ship in 2-3 hours. The weather was great and it was a nice afternoon in Cozumel. We looked around the shops near the dock and prices are much better here then in Grand Cayman. The "clerks" in the shops can be a little pushy and they tend to follow you around, like GLUE! I don't like that but that's how it is. We took some nice pictures of the ships in Cozumel. RCL had a huge ship there and NCL had the Epic docked at the pier closer to down town. We were docked alongside the Elation. Even w/all the ships in port it was not crowded and we enjoyed the day. We didn't do any tours or beach stops. Just shopping and some drinks!

We purchased a tour package from the cruise line. We would have been further ahead just hiring a cab to take us to Tiki Beach. The beach was fine but not as nice as Grand Turk, our favorite, or Half-Moon Cay. When we returned to the dock area we found a long line, maybe two blocks, waiting for the tenders back to the ship. That was the one "down side" to booking a ship tour. We noted some people get out of cabs closer to the dock and they ended up ahead of us in line. This was our only complaint about the tour. Grand Cayman is a very costly place to shop so we went back to the ship and relaxed. We went to Lido deck and had a late lunch. The weather was fine, not hot, but MUCH nicer then Wisconsin!
