Celebrity CONSTELLATION 1/15/2011 - 1/29/2011

Sail Date: January 2011
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Ship was very nice, a result of a recent refurbishing and 'Solsticizing' of it. Service was outstanding: Marius and Evica in the dining room, Doris as room steward, Mustafa and Ante in the Tuscan Grille, and Johnny in the Bistro on 5. None of them could have been more attentive.

Arrived the day before and staying at Fairfield Inn in FLL.

Embarkation on Saturday was smooth, quick and flawless. Luggage arrived relatively quick and in time to change for dinner.

Food ranged from excellent/outstanding (usually) to just OK (once or twice), but when I got something I did not care for, Marius INSISTED that I order something else--and then it magically appeared almost instantly.

The night life is a bit sleepy, as the average age of the guests is probably late 60's.

Perry Grant in Michael's Club is a hoot--a must see at least once! "Full Tilt", an acapella quartet made their debut on this voyage--they are fantastic and played 3 or 4 times to SRO More crowds in Reflections Lounge. Unfortunately, they were allocated only 30 minutes per performance, but I will wager that will increase on future sailings as the demand by pax is certainly there.

My balcony stateroom was of normal size, but had tons of storage space and did not seem crowded at all. Bedding was new and firm and clean. Bathrooms were adequate.

Public space (theater, restaurants, bars, music venues, etc.) were very nice and usually sedate.

Debarkation was organized and easy. My 'group' was called right on schedule, and we made it downstairs, off the ship, collected all luggage, and got through customs in less than about 40 minutes. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Constellation 7057

My balcony stateroom was of normal size, but had tons of storage space and did not seem crowded at all. Bedding was new and firm and clean. Nice, new carpeting. Bathroom was adequate, but still a bit dated. New flat screen TV, but the content of what was broadcast was very, very limited--but who stays in their cabin?

Port and Shore Excursions

Hired a taxi to haul us around the island. $20 a person for a 2-hour tour was sufficient and fair.

Spectacular!

Never get tired of the beaches here. As it was a national holiday, 99% of the stores were closed. But we found the old synagogue, still in use, and the cemetery adjacent to it--graves from the 1700's!

Not being a diver or snorkeler, there was not much to see/do here. Not even a Diamonds International to be found! But the scenery was nice and was covered by a 2 hour tour by van.

Easy walk from pier into town. Lots of the usual shops, but found the oldest synagogue in the western hemisphere. Nice place to tour, especially the museum.

Not a whole lot to see here. The "Island of Spice"--better to just buy McCormick!

I'm ready to move! What a great place. Took a private tour from Cosul (actually, it was Yellowbird, his brother)--and it was the best money spent. For 6 1/2 or 7 hours, we were driven around the island, fed local foods, and had all the free beverages (adult and soft) we could want. Cosul is a 'must do' for anyone wanting to see the island!

Been there about 4 times, so did not see anything new or special. Last trip, in December 2008, we went to the French side of the island. It was dirty and disgusting--nothing like it had been in the past. This time, we did not even bother to go to the French side.
