Thomson DISPIRITED: Thomson Spirit Cruise Review by J Price
Overall Member Rating
Destination: Canary Islands
We booked Thomson Spirit as a last minute get away, having cruised many times (with good companies) in the past, and were bitterly disappointed at the poor standard and quality of this ship. The ship is very old and in need of major refurbishment, if you have previous cruise experience with major cruise lines; you will be shocked how bad this ship is. It reminded us of a cross-channel ferry from the 1970s.
The cabins were small and the beds short and bumpy. The carpets in most of the public places were dirty. the crew had brushes in the dining room, but needed industrial hoovers. The food in the self-service area was cold, and stale. The food near the pool had so much spillage under the tables, there were pigeons.
The small pool was so dirty, you couldn't see the bottom for the green cloudy water. Oh and the black stage needs chucking overboard.
The bar areas (not 'cocktail lounges' - far too More grand for this ship) were commandeered by Brit drinkers who were intent on drinking the ship dry, and almost succeeded, at 3pm a drunken group of women swayed from the "line-dancing lessons" into the reception area, and crew did nothing about them. Many people ignored the no-smoking rule, and evidence in many places of smokers. Drunken Brits on holiday, like the "Costas" of the 70s. Keep away.
NEVER AGAIN with Thomson, their brochure is very close to misrepresentation ....have you wondered why there are so few actual photos of inside the ship....? This ship is NOT elegant, glitzy or modern in any shape or form; it's a dump.
We are amazed that some people have reviewed this ship as OK, they must be 'innocents-abroad', never sailed with a good company, easily pleased/drunk, or escaped from a council estate (many passengers seemed from this category).
