Just a little background about myself and my wife first. I am 38, she is 32. This is my first cruise, and her second. Her first was a four day cruise to Cozumel from Los Angeles with her parents. I spent 10 years in the hotel industry in the highly competitive San Francisco market, and know a thing or two about what it takes to provide a great and memorable vacation experience. I am a foodie, and enjoy the finer things in life, and I am slowly converting my wife into one. I do not drink at all, and my wife drinks maybe twice a year with her girlfriends.

Miami: We arrived in Miami the Friday before the cruise because I was paranoid about missing the ship. We arrived at the Courtyard Marriott in Coconut Grove, and had an OK stay there. The lobby was nice, but the rooms were in need of an upgrade badly. I also did not think about having to pay for parking ($25 a day for valet). That is certainly my own fault. We drove around Miami checking out the sights (in our convertible, which we were upgraded to at the last minute!!!). Miami is a beautiful city with lots to see. We had dinner on the Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. The restaurant is called Ortanique on the Mile. The food was pricey ($160 including tip with no alcohol at all), but it was worth every penny!!! I would highly recommend it to anyone in Miami.

Embarcation: We got to the Port of Miami at around 11:45 and waited in line to go through the security checkpoint. The line was long, but it moved quickly. From there, the VIP treatment for booking a suite started in earnest. Instead of waiting through the humongous line to check in, we were escorted to a room with couches to wait to be checked in. We got our key cards and were headed to the ship with our personal escort to the lounge to meet our concierge Carlos. From there we were escorted to Cagneys for our lunch, where the hotel director Kaj was making the rounds, and knew that we were on our honeymoon. Perhaps it was because he read it on his piece of paper before he came to greet us, but it was a nice touch.
