Grandeur of the Seas - Western Caribbean

Sail Date: December 2004
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New Orleans

We had a wonderful time on this vacation. Everything seemed to work out, my wife even made enough in the casino for the next cruise.

First, embarkation was a pleasure. There were about 30 people working there, we waited about 2 minutes. It took about 5 minutes to get our seapasses. We then sent our bags onto the ship and headed for the Riverwalk. We spent about 2 hours looking in the shops, and developed quite an appetite, then headed for the ship and the Windjammer Cafe.

As soon as we boarded the ship we were greeted with Pina Coladas (with or without liquor). They tasted great. The food in the Windjammer was abundant, tasty, and presented well.

We sailed away on time and headed down the "big muddy." We met our cabin attendant Richard he was polite, pleasant and eager to please. At dinner in the Great Gatsby we met our waiter Richard, our assistant waiter Louise, and our headwaitress Geraldine. They were GREAT. Answering every request More quickly. We thought the food was great and we missed lunch a couple of days and had 2 appetizers and 2 entrees no problem. ONE THING I HAVE TO STRESS IS THE FOLKS AT OUR TABLE WERE GREAT. We were usually about the last people to leave the room we had so much fun. We ate in the dining room every night.

We had breakfast and lunch in the Windjammer Cafe omelettes or eggs cooked to order for breakfast and a variety of dishes for lunch. I liked the wrap sandwiches myself.

The entertainment was great with 2 different comics and a magician. We didn't see the other shows due to our attendance in the casino (LOL).

The ports of call were fun. Key West was sort of a surprise. But at least they gave us a shore stop, they could have added another sea day if they had wanted to. Cozumel was nice but the vendors are a pain. Trying not to be rude to them wasn't easy. Costa Maya is just a place built for the cruise ships, but the town about a mile south Mahahaul was very nice, quaint, unspoiled. They got their first telephone in town about a month ago.

The ship is clean and well kept. We had no smell in the bathroom, but the stopper in the sink was not working right, so we just pulled it up by hand and the water went down with no problem.

Disembarkation was a breeze. We used Rush It Courier Service to take our bags to the airport while we toured New Orleans for the day. Well worth the $30 for 5 bags. They are located in the ship terminal after you leave the vessel.

This cruise experience was a fun time. Our second great time with RCI. We booked another cruise for next year while aboard. We had a horrible experience on the Norwegian Dawn, and RCI has renewed our faith in cruising. Less
