We (DH and I) flew from Seattle to Ft. Lauderdale, and took advantage of the cruise package at La Quinta, which provided pickup from the airport, lodging/breakfast, and shuttle service to Port Everglades. It must be a popular package, because there were three full buses leaving that morning, headed for four different ships. This was cruise number 17 for us, but our first cruise on HAL. All our previous cruises have been on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. We couldn't resist the combination of a terrific fare for a 14 night back to back cruise, and the appeal of a brand new ship.

We arrived around noon, and embarkation was quick and smooth. We headed straight for our cabin, which was ready, and because we travel only with carry-on luggage, we were unpacked in short order. There was ample hanger and shelf space, lots of hangers, and our suitcases fit easily under the bed. BTW, no need to use your ship's card to insert in the light fixture slot by the door--we used a grocery store card, and simply left in there permanently. No fumbling for a card when we opened the door to a dark room that way. We found our cabin attendant, and asked for two foam toppers for the bed-I like my bed a little softer. These were brought promptly, and put on the bed. We also asked to have the little coffee table removed-it took up valuable space, and was an invitation for bumped shins. We really liked the wall mounted flat screen TV, with built in DVD. Free DVD`s were available from the front desk-just ask for a list. And a real bathtub-more room for a shower for my tall hubby!

We had a fully obstructed ocean view (a life boat hung right in front),but still got lots of sunlight in the room. The windows were the size of patio doors, but didn't open. They had black out curtains, and we quickly learned to keep them closed, after we noticed crew members walking by our window on the narrow walkway.
