This was my 6th Princess cruise. Our first cruise was on the U.S.S. Britania. This cruise was 14 days with 5 ports, Hilo, Honolulu, Kauai, Maui and Ensenada, Mexico. Unfortunately, because of poor weather, the Golden Princess was not able to dock in Nawiliwili, Kauai and tender in Lahaina, Maui. It is not Princess's fault that the weather was bad but is a big disappointment when you miss 2 out of 5 ports in 14 days. So there were a lot of sea days and I started feeling like a mermaid. We watched a lot of movies but it was rather chilly some days to sit on the deck and watch MUTS. We did try the hula dancing lessons which was quite fun. As for the ports: On Hilo we had made arrangements to tour with Mary Lou's Big Island Adventure. Marylou was a fantastic tour guide and I would recommend her very highly. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable and emailed us pictures she took of us during the tour. On Honolulu we winged it and walked from the ship to Iolani Palace, which I would recommend very highly. We took a bus from the palace to Waikiki Beach and enjoyed the beach and shopping. It is extremely easy getting around by public transportation in Honolulu. We got off the ship in Ensenada to stretch our legs after being at sea so long. We had not scheduled any excursions so walked and checked out the shops. It was not one of the more exciting ports I have seen. We met some very nice Cruise Critic people on the ship and because of them had a good time. My husband and I received a $250 credit from Princess because of the missed ports. As for the food. We had anytime dining. We never had trouble getting a table. It seemed that a lot of people chose to eat in the Horizon Court or specialty restaurants. Some nights the food was good but not always. One night I ordered a duck dish and could hardly cut it, and sent it back. My husband ordered lamb and it was very fatty. Also one night the prime rib dinner was good and another it was fatty and not so good. I found the food inconsistent in quality. I guess when you have so many sea days, you really look forward to dinner.

As for the entertainment. I found some of the production numbers good but a few were mediocre. In Honolulu, we were told there was going to be a hula dancing show. It was a cute as the performers were 5 to 15 year old Hawaiian children. I guess I thought it was going to be a professional show.

Cabin Review

We had an inside cabin number C736. Jules Rios was our cabin stewart and did an excellent job. He made sure that whatever we requested, was in our cabin. It was very quiet and I slept like a log. The cabin had lots of storage but for anyone who likes to spend a lot of time in their cabin, it would be small. We tend to use it to change clothes and sleep so it does not bother us.
