NCL Epic - Beautiful Ship but a few things need attention

Sail Date: January 2011
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

We travelled as a family two adults and two boys aged 7 and 10. We have cruised in the past with NCL on the Dawn and the Jade so are familiar with the concept of free style cruising which we have enjoyed in the past.

We travelled from the UK the night before the cruise and stayed at the Hyatt Summerfield Suites near to Miami Airport. Hotel was fine for a short stay and we caught a cab from the hotel to the port for $27 plus tip.

Embarking the ship was smooth and quick although the queue wound round the building.

As it was new years day we were greeted with staff wearing party hats and wishing us all a happy new year ( nice touch)

The ship is huge and beautiful although as some people have mentioned the casino in the middle of the ship was a bit strange especially when travelling with children and you have to cut though it all the time.

We had a family inside cabin due to late booking and full sailing this was the only cabin available. We More have never stayed in an inside before and found it small although it was adequate.

Plus points - water park great, beautiful ship, lots of good entertainment. Blue Man Group was great, second city ok, murder mystery lunch not worth the cost, Legends show was great and our favourite was the late night magician.

Negatives - service was ok but not as good as on other NCL ships. Buffet was half the size as on other ships and did not offer a good selection of dishes my assumption is this is to encourage people to pay for speciality restaurants. Food in Taste, Manhattan Room and O'Sheehans on various occasions was cold and service disorganised.

We ate in Mondero and although enjoyed it was way too much meat.

Overall we had a great time on the Epic it never felt to crowded even though the ship was full, the kids facilities were good. Food was a bit and miss, shows were great. Would go on Epic again. Less
