Sail Date: May 2010
Cabin: Balcony

We took the Inside Passage cruise from Vancouver to Whittier, Alaska on May 21-29, 2010 aboard the Diamond Princess. We had a balcony room which was clean and comfortable. Overall appearance of ship was clean and nice. Staff was friendly, but nothing exceptional like our only other cruise on Royal Caribbean. We left our RC cruise amazed at the staff.

The decks on the ship were incredibly crowded as people pushed to get closest vantage points for glacier pics. We wound up staying on our balcony which worked out well because the ship pivots to allow views from both sides.

Our biggest disappointment was the quality of the food. We had anytime dining. This simply means you can go to any of the restaurants, which all serve the same menu. Each one opens at a different time, and that was very confusing. The selection of food was amazing, the preparation was not. We even tried the steak house, which was pretty much the same. Forums led me to seek out the Belgian waffles and they are very good. Perhaps cruise ship food has declined in the years since we took RC, but we will try that line the next time.
