Love cruising and chose Celebrity seduced by new ship, promises of excellent cuisine excellent service etc etc. True, design features are wonderful. Frozen Martini Bar fabulous. Cabins decor and balcony all great.
However unless you booked the speciality restaurants online beforehand you had no option to get a table. We tried every day for seven days. The food choice in the Oceanview cafe is poor, limited and after being on shore actiivtes only serve pre cooked pizza and pasta. The cartons of 'frozen whole eggs' on display at breakfast were a real shock. Seems like as much is processed as is freshly prepared.
The two outdoor pools designed in a way which does not permit sailaway parties and the opportunity to 'get the ambience right'. The band was poorly appointed. Singing Frank Sinatra with a chinese lilt is really really not what most people dressed in their finery want to listen to, including the Asian guests we spoke too onboard wanted to hear.!
Entertainment team (Director and assistants) only seen when departing on shore days or disembarking. Lack of engaging activities for all adult ages all day. Stuffy library an istore and glass blowing who on earth rated these as 'top drawer'. Grass on the top deck to play petanque or bocce as the americans call it always nice to relax but Solstice ships seem to be running with this as their best attribute.
Compared to Princess and RCCI where the central walkways and Atrium's make for great people watching and places to make announcements and make a cruise feel like you are being entertained (should you choose) Celebrity is way back of the queue.
Shore excursions all great with a good selection.
Passengers on cruise were all great EXCEPT family from hell next door with three kids who were up all night banging and crashing. Celebrity customer service did not want to address this until protestations made at the highest level. An officer arrived and spoke once to parents. He left it started again. We repeorted nothing happened. Celebrity frightened to upset passengers ??What is that about?
Weird experience overall but heh the Caribbean is always beautiful and we are lucky to be able to visit. Next time not with Celebrity though. Princess still takes a lot of beating. We are British but enjoy American cruise ships on the whole.
