The day after Thanksgiving we bought a "Black Friday Special" for $199. This was a 5 night cruise to Key West, Cozumel & Grand Cayman. Since we had cruised other lines before, our expectations of the Costa Atlantica were just average. We checked in and within minutes we were on the ship.
At first we thought they had assigned the wrong cabin to us. Our sister and brother-in-law had the cabin next door. To our amazement we had a big, beautifully appointed stateroom with a balcony. Plenty of closet spaces and storage for clothes. Unbelievable!
The housekeeping staff was meticulous and very friendly. The shows in the theater were very entertaining and there was always something going on for the kids to the seniors. We enjoyed the international flavor of the Costa.
The food was ok but we've had better on other cruise lines. Some dishes were very good but the beef dishes were disappointing. But not to worry, we had plenty from which to choose. Our table mates in the dining room could not have been more charming and fun. We looked forward to dinner every night with them. The dining staff was great and attentive to our wants. One day we even had our "breakfast in bed" from room service. That was a free service and they would not accept a tip.
Although we thought the service charge was $9.50 per day, it was actually $11. They must've had a increase in 2011. Still in all it was an unbeatable value and a memorable time was had by all.
