For anyone who has had more than 15 cruises within 5 years on RCI, you have noticed a decline in the quality and variety of food in Windjammers’ and evening venues like Leonardo’s, Adagio, Edelweiss etc. Those who are new to cruising will probably overlook this, because of the outstanding service and friendliness provided by the staff.
Most of the reviews have sufficiently covered all of the wonderful and innovative features of RCI’s new ship, “Allure of the Seas”, and there are indeed positives. I will therefore concentrate on several areas that I found to be rather lacking.
The gym was lacking the customary steam and sauna facilities that are available on other ships in the fleet. Of course, for an additional $150 (for 7 days) you were allowed use a sauna/steam-like room,.. that I found personally unacceptable.
They have eliminated the Windjammer breakfast omelet stations, and replaced them with pre-made omelets, this eliminates one’s ability to order eggs white or other specialty omelets,…and what is available, is fair at best.
Finally the smoking situation in some of the dance venues is unacceptable, and can thus cause one to avoid them like the plague. The ventilation system does not provide adequate relief, and as such pollutes great evenings of enjoyment and dancing.
If any of the aforementioned issues does not cause concern, then the trip aboard the Allure should be a wonderful and rewarding vacation. She is a beautiful ship, and must be seen and experienced. I do think however, once the newness and novelty wears off, experienced cruisers will opt for the “Freedom Class” amenities and itineraries.
POST NOTE: If you entertain the notion of bringing contraband items, steam irons, liquor, vodka in water bottles etc.,,DON'T! It will be confiscated, and you will be inconvienenced.
