Sail Date: Nov 2010

We arrived San Pedro 2 days prior to sailing. We stayed at the Doubletree Hotel. Nice Hotel, we had a view of the Marina and could see as the Golden slowly arrived into port. The Hotel lets you leave your car parked and has a shuttle to the pier.

I think I'm going to break this review down by listing all the things we love and all the things we really were very disappointed in.

Cabin Review

Cabin PS

I was so excited to have what I considered to be the best mini-suite on the Golden. Cabin E729. Aft with an extended balcony. The cabin location was very good. Loved it until........we realized we were surrounded by chain smokers. Some of them were in the interior cabin across from us. The hallway was filled with smoke. The cabin was filled with smoke. Our cabin steward told us he was bringing "5 ashtrays a day" to the interior cabin. When I walked out on our great balcony everyone was smoking around us, on every balcony. Next to us were a Russian couple, they never stopped smoking. At 2AM they were out there smoking. I could not believe my vacation, that I had been looking forward to for so long, was now being destroyed by something that I never even thought about as being a problem. No one has ever brought up this subject. Well I'm bringing it up. We had a water leak in a pipe, it was dripping down the inside of the front door in the room. They had the leak fixed in about 1 hour. The carpet was wet, they brought in a large fan and dried the rug. I was starting to think my great cabin was not so great after all. The leak happen on a the 3rd sea day. I'm glad we were in the cabin when it happened. If we had been in port the whole room could have been flooded. We caught it quick and they fixed it quick, so that was that. We were explaining to Simon, he was the person they told us to speak to regarding the smoking. He was very understanding, but had no better or as good as cabin to move us to. We considered when we arrived at the first port leaving the ship and hopping the islands and flying home. Just could not stand the smell of the smoke. Simon left a message when we were in Hilo that a full suite had become available. He moved us the the Carbie deck cabin C425. It was wonderful. Beautiful suite, just perfect. We were so grateful for that cabin. Now, I hesitate to bring this up and almost did not write a review at all because I don't want to sound extreme or just plain crazy. I guess my hesitation is also because NO one has every discussed this on this site, that I can find. Could it only be me? I don't think so. Well here goes. After being in awe of the beautiful cabin we were moved to, I went into the bathroom. It was so nice. Jetted tub, glass shower, private sink and toilet area, marble floor. Then I noticed a strong smell of pee. I asked the cabin steward to please clean the toilet that it smelled. After he was kind enough to do that, it still smelled. When I took my shower I cleaned it myself, cleaned the floor all around, it still smelled. Never did figure it out. It smelled like pee the whole time. Let me state clearly, I'm not a germ-a-fob, not weird about smells, not a clean freak, don't have super high expectations. It did kind of take away from the beautiful bathroom for sure.
