Flew out to Barbados on Thomson B767...P&O gave comp drinks..bags deliverd to cabin after last seen @ LGW.Embarkation so easy inc. a 30 min mini-bus ride to ship side.Return from BGI just as easy and painfree.
We had a BALCONY cabin midships.Very nice that biscuits supplied with kettle and a choc on pillow at night. The beds were very narrow(and we're slim!),and balcony not that large but OK.Good shower and plenty of towels.
We dined in Saffron for B'fast+Dinner and the Maitre D' was so good in finding us a table-for-2.No good not to sit and hear the USUAL moans and groans!
The deck 15 buffet was manic...a glorified Mc Donalds frequented by the greedy ones(plates piled high with often uneaten food!) We dined in WHITE CLUB for £20 each..not as good as AZURA XVII speciality. Splashed out 15 quid each for EAST which was superb..best ever Sea Bass and gentle Thai service. The Beach House on D15 was also v.good, especially the "pay-food". Pizzeria(15) also superb and very QUICK.
Just loved the 4 lectures by Mike Whitehouse,a former RED ARROW(1978-80),who also spoke on 617Sqn Dambusters. The shows weren't the best as male singer poor, but fab costumes. We loved the Lulu,George Michael and Cher tributes but best of all was Brett Cave..even better than Elton John..this boy is a "class act".
Down on deck 5 was the WHITEWALL Art Gallery. 3 super talks on Rolf Harris,Jack Vettriano and the oh-so-fab Argentinian Fabian Perez given by Ryann(S.A).Kirsty And Ryann were so delightful and pleasant..and not a bit "pushy". I finished up buying an Original..and bubbly on Whitewall!!!
There was usual stampede for sunbeds..but we're not into Skin Cancer..so no problem forus. Uncontrolled smoking on adjacent balconies was a prob for some..but we got lucky!
The port highlight was St.Maarten(Dutch) where we took a $10 taxi to wetch a KLM B747 almost land on the beach..Air France send a A340 but, also NOT daily.
Grand Turk was gorgeous.. pink sand/turquoise sea..beach stone's throw from ship! Ocho Rios is AWFUL...hostile natives +dreaded SANDFLIES. Domenica just a mass of trees/rainforest..been there, sadly got the T-Shirt!!
Special mention for Maitre D' Joy Fernandez from Mumbai and also Victor,Head Waiter, from Goa..both such wonderful ambassadors for P&O. The Indian(GOA) waiters worked their butts off to give us all a super holiday.
Capt.Hamish Reid was a real character..theatre full to hear him!
Only bad thing for me was the intensely aggressive, and totally unnecessary, security on boarding and reboarding. You'd have thought they were expecting the TALIBAN not nice Brit, well behaved passengers.Control freak/racism comes to mind.
P&O you did it for us...RCI beaten all hands down.
