Freedom was better
Our deal: We had a fantastic experience in October '09 aboard the Carnival Freedom. We decided to book a cruise on the Liberty for a Dec 2010 cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. As most people would be, were were excited for this cruise. With such a positive experience the first time, we couldn't imagine there would be any issues. We talked it up so much that my best friend came along with us. It was her first cruise.
We used this site as well as the cruise line site to help us plan. We read through the reviews. Many of the negative ones pointed out the behavior, dress and physical appearance of fellow cruisers. We figure, you fixate on what everyone else is doing, you are bound to have a poor time! We laughed those off and booked anyhow. People are entitled to their opinions afterall.
Sadly, we did have issues with this cruise.
There weren't enough onboard activities to do. The last cruise was loaded with things to do onboard. When there was an activity the More staff was typically late and there were usually technical difficulties or the activity was rushed. The dancing shows were lame. There were some technical difficulties for the main show. We watched about 10 minutes of it and left.
There was a music show on the last night at sea in the Victoria Lounge. Many guests got up on stage and were dancing and having a great time. We noticed the cruise director, Todd and various members of staff in white uniforms behind us. We noticed that Todd and his colleagues were actually cracking jokes and making fun of the passengers who were on stage. This was unacceptable and very unprofessional.
We had late dining in the Silver Olympian with Ava and Imade as wait staff. The wait staff service was one of the few forms organization we saw. Our fellow diners were super nice and felt a lot of the same way we did... the food was just OK but the service was great.
Long and short...opt for seated breakfast and lunch if you can. It takes longer but it beats the long lines and substandard food in the buffets. Also, Harry's was by far one of the best meals we have ever had. Everyone else we met on board who went there felt the same way. Go for the pizza bar on the Lido deck. Very good!
Our cabin was nice. We were in room 8232 with a balcony. It was amazing! Our steward was a sweet man and always bid us good day. He even set out extra towels and gave us extra ice without us having to ask every day.
I have great respect for the wait staff and stewards. They work so hard and their efforts really shine.
Wee Jimmy and his staff on the Freedom FAR exceeded the Liberty. They had their stuff together and it was apparent the Liberty didn't!
We are planning a cruise to Alaska and considering going to another cruise line that I have sailed with before. Less
