I had only cruised on Celebrity once before, on a short, 3 night getaway out of Seattle. It was port intensive as well, and not long enough to fully realize the concept behind Celebrity. We have a better understanding of Celebrity's position in the cruise marketplace now: it's intended for older, mature adults, with the idea of pampering and "treating you famously" as their sole motivation. It won't appeal to everyone, and it was a concept that I had a hard time with, having cruised on other lines.
With other ships, one of the primary goals (besides pampering and creating a fun and relaxing atmosphere) is to offset low entry fees with additional revenue- excursions, drink packages, alcoholic beverage sales, shopping venues. With the Millennium, I was NEVER ONCE asked to purchase the drink of the day, a beverage package, future cruise deposit or anything else.
There were no fun after dinner drinks in souvenir glasses, umbrella drinks or any other novelty. In fact, it was sometimes difficult to get the attention of the bar waitress in the dining room, and our assistant waiter got us drinks from the bar one night! There were many times when we walked through EMPTY bars. Some bars (the sports bar and bar above the pool deck) weren't even open! I'm not a boozer by any means, but I just found the atmosphere on this ship to be lacking.
7178- chose this cabin for "larger" balcony... it was on the wrong side of the ship for best views of ports. Closet was ample (difficult to access with bathroom door in the way). You may have seen our lamp on another post. Corroded, nasty looking. Difficult to maintain room temperature. Too warm with balcony door open. Air conditioning fluctuated, first blanket on, then off. Sleeping was difficult because of that. Mattress was comfortable. Could use a wastebasket in the bathroom. I truly wish the fridge wasn't prestocked. Or at least, NOT totally crammed full of Honor Bar stuff. It would be nice to have just opened it and pulled out a chilled water bottle or snack.
