Sail Date: Dec 2010
Cabin: Garden Villa

First off, I want to tell you that this was the second part of a back to back in a Garden Villa that was the most spacious we have ever had on a ship. WOW! We stayed on in Miami from the 5 day, and Dave went to the airport to pick up our daughter who sailed this part with us. We also had two special friends sail in our cabin with us - David & Betty from California. By the time everyone got in from the airport, I had already invited people I met at the waiting lounge into our room for a drink. We had lunch at Cagney's, which was open for suites for breakfast and lunch every day. We all 5 enjoyed this quite a bit. Our Butler, Jayson; room stewart, Larry and Conceriege, Belkys were all wonderful on the first part and now we got to see them again. Our Hotel Director, Hugo was a big part of our cruise this time around. He did everything from sending St. Nick's night chocolates to setting up a BBQ for our cruise critic friends in the Garden Villa. But more on that later. I will try to do day by day, but will probably forget something.

December 3, embarkation day. Sail away was at 4PM and dinner that night we ate in Aqua, which is one of the non-pay restaurants. We called our conceriege before we left and she always got us in whenever we wanted to go. No lines - ever. We utilized the hot tub most nights and relaxed in our cabin a lot of the time. The show that night was a little taste of the shows for the entire cruise.

Saturday, Dec. 4th - At sea day. We met in the Star Bar and brought everyone up to the GV for the meet and mingle. Captain Sverre Sovdsnes and several of his officers were there to greet everyone and we had a good time with them. When they left, we had our gift exchange, lunch was served and we enjoyed each other's company till about 3PM. It was a surporise when we heard that the Captain and his family have their home only 10 miles from us. The lattitudes aprty was at 5:30 and very crowded. Dave, Cassie & I took the opportunity to get our pictures taken so we could choose later what we wanted. You can have them put in an envelope with your cabin number on it for later viewing. We all 5 ate at LeBistro tonight and of us had fondu chocolate with fruit. We saw Band on the Run and it was terrific. Sunday, Dec. 5 was Samana from 11AM till 5PM. We did not do much here but shop a bit and return to ship. The hot tub was calling. Most days, Cagney's was where we had breakfast and dinner. I loved their steak and eggs. Anyway, on Samana, we tendered in and Belkys took us through a secret door on deck 13 behind the Star Bar and down to the tenders. No lines at all. Loved it. The Captain invited us to dine with him tonight in Impressions, and we all had a great time. He is very intelligent about a lot of different subjects from politics to world history. We "closed" the restaurant. The show tonight was hypnosis. We did not go. We did go to the hot tub again. Hugo (Hotel Director) told us that the Spinniker on the Dawn will be changed into cabins like on the Star. He also told us that Undercover Boss NCL will air in late December. When we offered to do a BBQ for a few friends from cruise critic, we accepted willingly.

Cabin Review

Garden Villa

Cabin S1

There is no comparison to the Garden Villa - it is the most spacious cabin aboard any vessel I have seen- and I have seen a few penthouses. I would say there is more space to store things then we brought along. Empty drawers abound. The only negative I have is that the 15th deck is under-utilized. It should be used for something other than wasted space. Hardly ever used it.
