My husband and I (both 52 years old) seasoned cruisers, were very very impressed with the Carnival DREAM! We found it to be very immaculate in every aspect; and the cabin room service was superior! (those people are soooo over worked and are kept busy every minute of every day doing some sort of cleaning on the ship even when they are not in the cabin rooms!) It made us feel sorry for them, they work sooo many hours a day! Our cabin on the Veranda Deck # 8443 was very spacious and of course had a wonderful balcony which we used a lot of the time every day and evening! (Once you cruise WITH a balcony, you will never again cruise without one!) People say "You don't spend enough time in the room for it to matter or be worth the extra expense", but trust me... it makes the trip so much more enjoyable when you can go out on your personal balcony at any given moment and have all the privacy you could ever want and the views are remarkable! The boarding of the ship was soooo organized and went so fast and smooth we were both amazed. (I have heard some horror stories on embarkation and debarkation from other cruises!) They really had this down to a science, and we chose to carry our own luggage off the ship for the first time and let me say, THAT is the way to go! (You are called FIRST if self assisting with your own luggage and we were called at 8AM and were on our bus for the airport THIRTY minutes later!!! That in itself was unreal!
The only complaints we had on the cruise, was that our Cruise Director (I think his name was Bruce Begovich) could not have been more annoying the entire week and we really could have done without that! He was always acting up and laughing at himself and saying the dumbest things and could not have been more "Flamboyant" which really got on our nerves! Also, the "Mongolian Stir Fry" line in the cafeteria was always so slow, and should be moved outside on the 5th deck. It moves soooo slow that you wait in line way too long for that! However, the best food we ate on the whole cruise was actually outside on the 5th deck 2 different days from the GRILL and it was the best BBQ RIBS either of us had ever tasted in our lives! When they served those every one went wild over them and I mean they were AWESOME!!! The Prime Rib, the Fried Shrimp of course, and the Steak served in the Dining Room was always cooked to perfection and we were both very very pleased with everything we ate in there! In the cafeteria style dining hall, the food was good for the most part; NOT anything superior but they did have Prime Rib and sliced leg of lamb in there a couple of days. The food was just the usual mix of "cafeteria style" food in our opinion for the most part and could have been a lot better! We have both had better on other Carnival Cruises but hey, this is a recession I guess?
Room Service items ordered from the cabin TV remote was always promptly delivered and that selection needs to be improved on greatly in comparison to our other Carnival sailings it was not nearly as good and had minimal dessert selections; but perhaps to make people not want to use Room Service?
We think that Carnival after retrieving as much information as they do prior to us cruising; should easily be able to group families together traveling WITH CHILDREN, and seat them in one dining area and not seat them with people who are not traveling with small children! (Most people cruised to get away from the hectic life and were seeking quite, serene, possibly romantic "dinner dates" and do not enjoy or appreciate people who do not correct their children or who do not make them talk softly and therefore everyone else gets "entertained" by them without choice!!! That part we never could understand! One woman actually had a very small baby in the dining room every nite that through food making a horrible mess and screamed through out dinner and she actually put him down on the floor to crawl around near people's feet! That young couple actually acted like the rest of us were there for her child to entertain all of us and it was unbelievable!!!
