Great Multi generational Eastern Med Cruise

Sail Date: October 2010
Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean
Embarkation: Venice

Once we found the people mover at Pizzale Roma in Venice...embarkation onto the Splendour of the Seas was a breeze!

The ship is small and older without all the bells and whistles. However, we found her to be beautiful, clean and well taken care. We also found that there were sufficient activities to keep our multigenerational group (my parents late 60s, myself early 40s and my daughter 7) happy and occupied throughout our week long cruise.

All the staff were helpful, friendly and made us feel like VIPs. My daughter enjoyed the AO program and although there were not many kids on board, she managed to make a few friends.

This was a port intensive cruise. We visited the following ports: Split, Croatia; Island of Corfu; Athens; Katakolon&Olympia and the gorgeous island of Mykonos. Mykonos was our favourite port, followed by Athens. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

At this port, we reserved a private driver through George Taxi and we were quite pleased. We spent a wonderful day touring the major sites of Athens. It was a hot and beautiful day. Athens was much more beautiful and clean than I was anticipating. We really enjoyed our day in Athens!

This is the first and only time that we did a ship sponsored excursion. It was a cool and rainy day so we were glad to have an organized tour. We went all around this little island. We spent most of our time at Sissy`s Achilleon Palace which was the highlight of this port for us.

We took a shuttle to Olympia from Katakolon. We did not find the ruins at Olymnpia particularly interesting as there were not much information written about the ruins. We figured they wanted us to hire guides to tour the sites which we refused to do. We walked around the little town of Olympia - a quaint town. Unfortunately, it was another cool and rainy day but we enjoyed our day.

We really enoyed this port! Mykonos is a picture post card port! We took a shuttle into the town and just spent the day walking all over and stopping in little shops and cafés. This was a relaxing and scenic day!

Split, Croatia is a quaint town. We had nothing planned for this port. We found it to be a mix between Med and Eastern European in terms of architecture and 'feel'. When we got off the ship, there were tour buses asking if we wanted to get on so we did. It gave us a good overview of the area. We then walked around and walked back to the ship. Our ship docked a very short walk to the downtown area.
