Recently my husband and I went on a 7 day cruise on the Carnival Legend with 4 other friends. We booked the cruise based on the port of departure, ports of call and especially the price. This was our first time on the Legend but third time on a Carnival ship and 7th cruise overall. The ship was clean and the staff was very friendly. That being said, there were a few things that we would question. There were a lot of smokers on board. We are not big gamblers but we do like to stop by the casino once an evening to make a small slot machine donation. The casino on the Legend was so smoky we could not stomach it. I tried to sit in the Non Smoking section but that was a joke. The person right behind me was smoking and it seemed to circle my head. We also found the photo area very tight and it made it difficult to inspect the pictures. The average age on this ship was higher than the ships we have been on that leave Port Canaveral. I harken this to proximity to St. Petersburg. The ship seemed clean but the decorations were a bit over the top. There was a lot of purple, golds and urns. We enjoyed the glass work on the ship but upon closer inspection found it dusty and some pieces were broken. Other than seeing the cruise director Wee Jimmy on TV we never saw him out and about on the ship. We did meet Young Sam and John who were part of the cruise director's staff and both were friendly. We did not see any of the variety shows and are sure Wee Jimmy was there. He was our cruise director on the Glory a few years back and was very nice. We did see the adult comic shows and they were good. Some were better than others and we would ask no repeat routines next time. The comics are only on the ship for a few days before they change ships and new material would be nice since the shows were not very long. However, a huge issue was when the show would end, the staff would make everyone leave so they could "clean up" before the next show. You had to go out and they would close the doors. You had to wait in line outside the doors just to walk back into the same room. It would get crowded in the hallway and a bit pushy just before the door opened again. This was especially the case when people had been drinking as they tend to do on board and lose personal space. It was absolutely absurd and no one could give me a good reason why we had to leave. At one point my group refused to leave since we had just been served our drinks. We were allowed to stay and the "clean up" was nothing more than the wait staff hanging out by the bar.

We booked a TBD room hoping for an upgrade but the boat was not sold out and we were assigned a room on deck 1. We thought we would not like the room but it turned out to be great. We had a window and could see the seas without any effort. The room was quiet and our room steward Paul was great. We never needed anything. He anticipated our every need.

The dining room was nice and our waiter and assistant waiter were great. The food was good. Some items better than others. We never felt rushed and my glass was never empty. They sang and danced on most nights and many of the patrons jumped up and joined in. It was a lot of fun.

Cabin Review

Lots of closet space and quiet location. Convenient to dining room and the elevators.
