My wife and I have just returned from this ten day Caribbean cruise on the Celebrity Millenium. We sailed from San Juan PR November 12, 2010 with stops in Tortola, St. Martin, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent, Aruba and Curacao. I do like this ship and quite frankly, prefer it to the newer Solstice class Celebrity ships. It's a personal choice so I won't bore readers here.

The food in the main dining room for dinner was fantastic, no complaints whatsoever. However, we did find the Ocean View cafe and grill was below the usual Celebrity standard. Besides the cold and not always fresh food, case in point the fish and chips that were unedible, as they had been sitting for hours, my biggest complaint was having to act like Oliver and ask for more. Most every item was served to you in the buffet, rather than the usual help yourself. I'm one of these people that wants to try everything, but only a very small portion, so you can imagine having to point to, and request seven or eight items, is time consuming, and subsequently delays the progress of the line.

The entertainment was fair. There was a Canadian lady singer who was fantastic, however the comedian, the ventuiliquist, and other acts to my way of thinking were sub standard. My wife and I do not participate in the onboard games, bingo, trivia, and the like, however we really look forward to the special interest lecturers. On this cruise we had a man who talked about pirates as though he was one, and spoke in the first person as though he was blackbeard, bluebeard, and the like. Interesting but after a couple of lectures was somewhat repetative. The best lectures were given by Dr. Helena Aves, I know I've spelt her name correctly as I made a point to write it down. Helena is a Geologist who gave absolutely fascinating talks about the Geology of the Caribbean, Natural disasters such as the recent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, why the price of petroleum is so high, and then had a sort of geological trivia where we, as the audience had to guess the location of the pictures on the screen. It's amazing how well traveled our fellow passengers are! Anyway, kudos to Celebrity for having such a wonderful and expert lecturer on board. I certainly hope we run into Dr. Aves again on another cruise.
