Sail Date: Nov 2010

From the time I began embarkation until I left the ship I found the general rule of the cruise line for dealing with customers was to belittle and ignore. I have sailed before and know how to handle finances aboard ship. I was snapped at by the embarkation person, in fact, told to "shut up" if I wanted to get on board. He could not separate my husband's and my account onto separate credit cards. I was told to do that once I got on board by one of our traveling companions. I attempted to do so but spent the entire week going back and forth to the Passenger Services desk to deal with it. Finally, on Friday, we were able to get our accounts straight.

The Shore Excursion people were the most unhelpful. We were a party of five all trying to tour the ports together. Two were singles who purchased their own tickets. One particular excursion was overbooked by the cruise line. One of our party was told the tour was "canceled" and he was moved to a more expensive excursion. When we told him that none of us had been told that we all went together to the excursion desk - discovered that the shore excursion person had canceled his ticket without notifying him. Then lied to him about the excursion itself being canceled. He booked his excursion months before the cruise so was understandably upset over the turn of events. We asked to speak to Louie - shore excursion manager - and were told he was unavailable.

The food servers were generally rude. There were exceptions, but few. An older couple seemed to be lost outside the Botticelli dining room one night and asked a passing server where the dining room was. Instead of asking which dining room, he rudely quipped, "there are many dining rooms on board, check your ship's map." Then he left them. My husband overheard the exchange and helped them find the dining room they wanted. At breakfast one morning my son couldn't find cream cheese to put on his bagel. He had been through the buffet line but couldn't spot it. He asked the server at our table if he could get some cream cheese - the server told him to get it in the buffet line. The same server was asked to get my husband a place setting (he was the fifth at a four-person table due to a very crowded room.) The server moved my place setting to in front of my husband. He seemed quite distressed to be bothered about getting a fifth place setting....I suppose my husband and I could have shared but we did not wish to do so.

Cabin Review

We had a very nice closet and I thought adequate bathroom space. The shower curtain, while a nuisance to some of our traveling companions, actually gave me more space than the standard hard glass door would have. The bed was uncomfortable and there was little space for moving around. I liked the balcony - and its location under the Horizon Court was not nearly as noisy as I had feared it would be.
