Caribbean Princess: Classic Southern

Sail Date: November 2010
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan

Caribbean Princess 7-day cruise, 10/31-11/07/2010

Ports: St Thomas, Tortola, Antigua, St Kitts (weather related alternate from St Lucia), Barbados

Ship was well appointed and well maintained, both cabins and public areas. Passengers were significantly older than on Carnival.

Embarkation started at 2, so they said to show up at 3 for faster embark. Showed up at 3:15 and stood in line in hot sun for 60 minutes, then it started to move faster. Was onboard at 4:45 (90 min total to embark).

Entertainment: offerings, especially production shows, were better than on Carnival. Movies Under the Stars is great fun, but sound was not great (could not understand all the dialogue) and rain soaked the chair cushions and lessened the experience.

Food: Main dining food was fine, as expected. Mini-lobster tail one night, paired with prawns (better than the lobster). Buffet food was much better than expected.

Cabin steward was excellent. Dining room More staffers were good, but seemed to be less enthusiastic (maybe that is a good thing) than on previous cruises. Less

Cabin review: Caribbean Princess Interior Double Aloha A229

Aloha Deck 229, Fore, starboard: Typical inside cabin; quiet, small but very adequate, electronic safe

Port and Shore Excursions

Swim with turtles was a worthwhile experience. 5 min van ride to the marina, then a few min ride to the nearby beach where guide provided pieces of fish for the turtles. Three turtles came and stayed near us for 30 min.

Lots of history within walking distance of most cruise terminals. Good restaurants.

Interesting rain forest hike. Saw Thomas Jefferson's great-great-grand parents' rum factory that was very recently discovered.

Ship docks a long way form Charlotte Amalie. Very crowded shops.
