This was our first cruise on Carnival, and only our 2nd cruise ever! From the moment we boarded the ship Legend, my heart kind of sank at the decor. It was very dark, and garish! I felt we were in some aged Las Vegas Casino rather than a luxury cruise. Perhaps just a matter of taste, so I put that aside, determined to enjoy the week ahead. The disappointment unfortunately continued, with several aspects. The beautiful Dale Chihuly glasswork that adorned many areas of the ship were very dusty! I was amazed that this was allowed. How can you showcase such beautiful artwork in such a reckless fashion? Unfortunately our disappointment continued with the attitudes of many of the crew members. The cruise director Wee Jimmy, came off as a bit aloof, not wanting anyone to "touch" him...he made several comments during various shows about not being touched...if he indeed has issues with this, I would think that this is an odd profession to pursue! Communication overall was very poor. Announcements were heard only in common areas, which left those who were in their cabins out of the loop. An option of hearing these announcements should be made available in the cabins, or at least a crawl along the bottom of the TV. Changes were made in shows, and activities on a regular basis, but many were left uninformed of the changes. When general questions were asked...ie: location of areas on the ship or times of various activities, we were often met with the answer..."I don't know" without the offer of finding out. Our group went to great lengths for the Halloween costume contest, and had a great time, however, though we were video taped, and the competition was video taped, they failed to include that on the TV, or in the cruise highlights! More than once, our dinners in the dining room were either incorrect, or we were told that the kitchen was not able to provide another dish because they had stopped serving....during our mealtime! Because of hurricane Tomas, our ports of call were changed on the itinerary, which is understandable, but out of the four ports, one we were unable to go ashore, and the other, excursions were cancelled, and many of us are still scratching our heads as to why Belize is even a consideration for a cruise ship to stop...not really much there to see or do! I understand that some things are not in the control of Carnival, but under the circumstances, I would have thought that they would have had a plan "B" for just such occasions to increase activities on ship...unfortunately not the case. The activities overall were a bit lame, and did not possess the finesse of those that we had experienced the prior year on Royal Caribbean. In spite of everything, we had great fun, but only because of the friends that accompanied us. Many of my complaints were mirrored in what I heard from fellow cruisers...so I know it wasn't just me...end result??? Can't wait for our next cruise, however it will not be with Carnival!

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin 8F

We were in 8194, a balcony cabin on the port side. The room was ok, nothing terribly special, and dated in the decor. No serious complaints, our cabin Steward Gomez was extremely accommodating and very courteous! The only thing that was really maybe a con to this cabin, was that very late at night you could hear the crew moving the lounge chairs around the lido deck, which was directly above us.
