Ship Facts: Carnival Freedom Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Carnival Freedom Deck Plans
Great Carnival cruise
This was our second cruise with Carnival. Embarkation was very efficient. We had originally booked a balcony and just before the cruise were given a choice of upgrading to a suite which we took. This gave us the VIP treatment which was very nice. The suite was very nice and roomy with plenty of storage space. Only real complaint about the room was the TV—only CNN or HLN-thus for 8 days we did not know what was going on in the world.

The staff was excellent as has always been on our cruises—if you treat them with respect, they will return same. Food was pretty good, but could have been better. We did not attend the shows as they all seem to run together after a while. This was a relaxing cruise for us.

The first port was Cozumel—it had rained so time there was short but pleasant. Next was Costa Rica which had absolutely nothing near the port so for safety reasons, we elected to stay on board. Then the Panama Canal. We took the train which was great. We were able to see two ships passing through the canal. What a treat.

Then two sea days which as stated above were relaxing for us. There are plenty of places on the ship for quiet time, you just have to hunt them out. The Posh restaurant was great, hard to find due to going to the rear of the ship and taking the elevator down to three—can't get there any other way without a lot of jumping from elevator to elevator. But for breakfast, it was worth the extra walking.

As with all others, the smoking can get out of hand. Smokers just don't seem to care if they are blowing the smoke in your face, after all, this is "their right." So naturally, we had to do a lot of moving around to avoid these inconsiderate.

Unfortunately, we had a medical emergency on board and had to drop off the person at Cayman, which caused us to arrive in Ft. Lauderdale four hours later. Folks with airlines to catch were scrambling. The staff did the best they could under the circumstances. This just showed us that should we have to fly to a port, plan on flying out the next day—less hassle in case of an emergency.

Debarkation was very quick given the latest of our arrival. We were able to get to the garage and get our car and get underway.
