I am back home..still tired, still lots of laundry to do but glad to be home and able to sleep in my own BED! Most of u know by now this was my first time on Princess, having sailed Carnival and Norwegian b4, we wanted to try something different and tried princess. This would be our first time to NYC and to Canada and New England for that matter.
Our plane landed at 11:05AM at LGA on Saturday and we had booked the princess transfer, after we got our bags we only waited for about 20 mins b4 the princess bus came and picked us up, there were only like 12 people on the bus, far from being full, and we were checked in and on the ship by 1:00pm. Checking in was super smooth and fast!
About the ship:
The ship was in great shape, looked good, but i did miss the "atrium" that most ships have. I like the whole aft pool area of the ship and the sky walkers is a neat idea. But skywalkers was really not a happening place? is it always like this? we were in there a few times, and the music was pumping but really didn't draw a crowd, I'm guessing it was the age group of most passengers on the ship at the time. The princess theater was missing the 'wow' factor and was a bit small. Overall i like the cabin layout better on princess, felt big, had nice space etc. But the shower is TINY and the beds, well were not comfortable at all, i really really missed the Carnival Beds. The shower i can deal with.
About the food:
The food in the dining room was great, we ate one breakfast there and 5 dinners there, we don't do formal nights. The food was very good, and the servers were outstanding. The buffet food was good at times and okay at other times. The buffets usually had lots of choices, and really good mashed potatoes there! I never found a HUGE line at the buffet area or the big chaos that has been mentioned here, the only problem with the buffet is the seating, they really need more tables, where? i don't know but it was usually rare to find a table inside, forcing some of us to eat outside in the COLD WIND lol.. it was tolerable tho lol, i guess for Caribbean cruises it wouldn't be such a big problem. But again never found the big lines ANYWHERE on the ship so that's good! We did room service a few nights and they were quick, and the food was good. I did have the lasagna that is offered on the room service menu, it is pretty good! Pizza was great by the pool. Hot dogs were very goood. Did not try the hamburgers or ice cream, but did have a milkshake that was good also!
About the Entertainment:
wow, what Entertainment? The production shows were the very least fav of any cruise Ive been on. There was no creativity, no flashy costumes, they were really bland and very uninteresting. And what got me really confused is why they only have 3 production shows on a 7 night cruise? it seemed like every production show they did was repeated again the next night?? so a few nights there was noting new to watch, and also the times of the shows seem to change every night? One night we were late for dinner because the show didn't end in time, we had to skip out of the show early to make it to dinner at 8:00, we had the 7:45 dinning time. I like it when the shows are the same time every night and it never runs into your dinner time etc, and they have a new production show every night. Alfred and Seymour were outstanding, loved their show the best, wish it lasted longer. By far they were the best of the Entertainment on the ship. The first comedian guy they had was good also, the 2ND guy was not that funny. I wish princess would invest in better production type shows and look into scheduling them correctly.
No complaints here, the crew was always friendly, we always had a clean room, actually got to talk to him for a few mins each day and he really seemed to enjoy talking with us. Every crew member we encountered were great!
Loved all the ports EXCEPT St. JOHNS. why is this even a stop on a cruise? we did the falls tour that took us an hour away to eat lunch and see the caves. wow what a waste of time and money this was, so boring, the tour guide was nice , she did her job but it was not the tour we thought it was going to bed. Newport we just walked around, looked in the shops, ate lunch and just enjoyed the views. Boston we didn't have anything planned so we got on a hop on and off bus and went to the market and spent the whole rest of the day on one bus, had a great tour guide driver, learned alot, we didn't wanna leave the bus. Bar Harbor was my fav, Saw the great fall color that i was waiting to see, we had the olies trolley booked, great views from atop the mountain. Great tour and great port! ST. JOHNS- BLAH i will not go there again. Halifax, we did the "Treasures of the Titanic" tour, and it was very interesting , really enjoyed this port, and picked up some Canadian souvenirs and that was that!
All in all, it was an okay cruise. Loved meeting all the people on the ship, but i know now that i really enjoy the warm weather cruises better. I would love to do Princess again, if the time, price and itinerary are right! :)
