Superstar Virgo October 2010 Sing - Pen- Phuket - Sing - KL
We found this cruise highly enjoyable and compares well against Pacific Dawn.
The $400 Food and Beverage credit was amazing and a friendly staff member in the Galaxy Bar helped us polish it off with some takeaways as we were collecting our passports to leave the ship.
Although some of the crew had limited English, this was also true on the Dawn, the big difference was on the Virgo there were a lot more nationalities to look after !
The staff were amazing from when we first stepped on the boat (cocktails on arrival) to smoothly collecting our passports prior to disembarkation. They would bend over backwards for you and never ever give you the impression that they weren't happy to see you and be there for you.
In the Bella Vista restaurant the staff were great but from time to time service was quite slow for no apparent reason.
On the subject of the "Gala Night" I thought the whole thing was completely overblown. On the Dawn for formal nights More it's simply dress up and go, on the Virgo as soon as you step on board the crew are at you to buy a special bottle of wine for the Gala Night and to book in to either one of the included restaurants. WE GOT ASKED 10 TIMES IN 10 MINUTES BY 10 DIFFERENT STAFF! The staff needed to give it a rest !
Also at the same time staff pushed us to book into one of the optional restaurants (Palazzo) to use up some of our F&B credit. The meal at the Palazzo cost two of us SD$103 with pre-purchased wine and although the service was outstanding the menu was extremely limited and the restaurant was very small with only some paintings on the wall to dress it up.
On Gala Night we found dining at the Bella Vista quite good and despite it being completely full (130 + tables) service was reasonably quick except they served us coffee before dessert instead of after and lost their places (and our desserts) mainly because managers were pressuring them to clear and reset tables for the second sitting and we thought they were stressing out.
Don't expect to have an easy time getting on board though.
Prior to embarkation it was really "push me, shove you!" lines going everywhere and nowhere and six or seven people finding one passenger ticket whilst we were getting bumped and jostled by people anxious to get aboard.
Despite some of the negatives, this cruise was staffed by professionals who knew how to look after us, the passengers and we're more than happy to recommend this cruise line to other cruisers and we would sail with them again :) Less

Cabin review: BAL
Balcony Cabin Deck 10, plenty of room, desk in great place (near sliding door for good natural light), never saw our cabin steward, they were never introduced to us and there was only a one-time plate of 2 apples and 1 orange placed in our cabin (no towel folded into an animal shape like on the Dawn). The small table on the balcony was dirty when we arrived in the cabin and was still dirty when we left. We had a bathroom malfunction on our last day that needed two calls and 1 hour to fix. Some children (with no supervision) ran up and down the corridor outside our room and sounded like a mob of elephants. Most times you could not hear anyone passing the cabin. I spotted something strange, a ashtray mounted in the corner of toilet area - not a fan!
