Ship Facts: Celebrity Eclipse Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Celebrity Eclipse Deck Plans
Happy Birthday Celebration on Eclipse!
We booked this cruise in March 2009 to celebrate my husband 70th birthday in Oct. 10 and selected stateroom 6153 deck 11 Concierge class we were not disappointed and it was lovely

We also selected a flight from Belfast to Southampton and transfers were included Flybe then changed the return flight from 0900 to 0830 so we were told we would have to return from Gatwick later in the day as this did not suit us we elected to take our luggage off ourselves and take a taxi to the airport

We arrived at 9am and checked in shortly after we then went to the big shopping centre West Quays near the docks and returned to the ship at 1pm and went to our room where our luggage was waiting

The room was excellent with a sofa bed (not needed for us) the bathroom was spacious with a strange long tap coming across the basin (far too long for the size of basin) and blocking the ability to "splash ones face " or else crack ones forehead on it !!! The wardrobe was too small and awkward to get into and the 5 drawers did not provide enough room for our clothing for 16 nights There was over bed storage but one would have to stand on the bed to access it !

The young girl Vilma who looked after us was excellent nothing was too much trouble we did not have an American adaptor did not know we needed one(no English plug sockets) so she supplied one for us and there was a bottle of sparkling wine plus fruit which was replaced daily also a bottle of Champagne provided as compensation regarding our changes of our flight arrangements (good customer service )

A bottle of water in the room cost $4 so we did avail of it ! There was a 32" flat screen TV with plenty of channels to choose from and nice balcony with plenty of room to relax

The bed was so comfortable and such lovely pillows the air con could not be turned off so was a bit noisy but we did sleep very well very quiet corridors

The ship was immaculate the rest rooms spotless and the staff were always cleaning the layout of the ship was well designed around the central atrium

Lots of bars and rooms to relax or join in the many activities if you wished

The Internet section on deck six was good but expensive to use

The library was dreadful with no selection at all total waste of time!

We used the Sky lounge or the lovely martini ice bar Michael's club was small and the adjoining lounge was so dark you needed torch to see (the waitress had one !!!)

The entertainment was excellent nice theatre great shows and a great cruise director John he was the best we have ever had on a cruise Carl Pucl who took the trivia quiz's and gave the excellent Titanic talks was a credit to Celebrity

The wine at dinner was very expensive we did not take a package we also found drinks were expensive in the bars

The Moonlight Sonata restaurant was excellent and our waiters Mini and Aston made dining a great experience so friendly and entertaining the food was good deserts were just average they gave us good advice on the menu selection each evening as we were on the 8.30 sitting

We also used the Aqua cafe at breakfast on sea days as the Ocean View could be quite busy the food in all these was excellent

Bistro5 was not good slow service (there was a $5 charge)a long wait and a disinterested waiter the panini was a toasted sandwich ! definitely not a panini !

The shops were ok nothing special and we did not use the spa but it looked very good treatments were also expensive

We went to the Tuscan grill for my husband's birthday and the service was superb lovely food but the portions were huge ! half the amount would have been enough we had a lovely table looking out at the sea at the window

The ship did not appear crowded even though it was full and we had eight sea days but the sun loungers are close together but we used the solstice deck which was less crowded than the pool areas

There was a long delay getting on the tender at Split we waited almost two hours and only got off at 1pm so had little time in this lovely city which was a shame hopefully the next time it will be better organized

There was not enough time in the ports especially Venice (Palermo was too long !!!) also we arrived in malaga on a Sunday so all the shops were closed

We did not use the shore excursions as we had been to many of the ports before but also they were quite expensive

We did not feel that we should have been charged for the shuttle in Dubrovnik but the charge for the boat shuttle in Venice was worth it

Disembarkation was excellent we decide not to take our bags off ourselves as Guest relations assured us we would have plenty of time and we were no 2 to go we were off at just after 6.30 and on the coach at 6.45 very efficient transfer

Overall the ship is excellent with lovely friendly smiling staff we hope they will keep up the high standard

This was our first time with Celebrity and it will not be the last we had a fantastic time and will recommend Eclipse and Celebrity to all our friends
