COSTA CHAOS!

Sail Date: October 2010
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Venice

Just returned from Eastern Med Cruise from Venice. Two hours waiting in embarkation hall, then an unceremonious departure, despite leaving beautiful Venice.

Our fellow passengers need a lesson in courtesy on board, i.e. allowing people out of the lift instead of charging in, and waiting patiently in queues. Smoking in non-smoking areas really annoying - couldn't go in Casino. All areas except theatre and restaurants were very smoky during evenings.

Why is it necessary to have plastic cups in buffet restaurant? - recommend taking your own mugs with you. All dining areas seemed overcrowded - waiters worked so hard to keep up with service demand.

Only 5 hours stop at best ports, Dubvrovnic, Santorini, Mykonos (night time)therefore no time to see anything once you have queued up for a tender ship.

There is a cable car in Dubrovnic which is 200 meters from old town gates - make sure you have credit card or local currency as they would not take Euros. We More are told views from the top are wonderful!

Good points, all staff very courteous, good standard of food and entertainment, especially Trio Los Paraguayos - great music!

If you choose this cruise ship, make sure you take midships cabin, we had sleepless nights at the front of ship with severe vibration and wave noise when sea even slightly rough.

Will stick to the British Cruise experience from now on. Less

Cabin review: Costa Fortuna

Outside cabin front of ship, good size, bathroom also adequate with decent shower and soft towels However, could be extremely noisy if sea slightly rough with constant thudding noise of waves and vibration noises - did not expect this on a large ship. Make sure you stick to midships cabin.

Port and Shore Excursions

The walk around the City wall is an absolute must for 10 Euro. Anyone with a disability can opt for the Cable Car which is 200 meters from Pile Gate. Make sure you take local currency or credit card as euros not accepted. This information not given to us by Costa. Coffee and beer very reasonable in local cafes and there is much to see in the old city.

Don't go further than the local bars and shops - there is nothing else but streets filled with rubbish. Mini Train not worth doing either.

Very pretty with blue shutters and winding streets - Costa dock 4km away during evening, so shuttle or taxi is required. Again, Costa squeeze two ports into one day - big mistake!

One of the best ports - ship docks alongside old walled city. Plenty of shops and cafes and historical landmarks to see. Walking tours are available, but it is easy to do on your own.

Beautiful views from old town, - very long queues for cable car both ways, up to an hour, however, the walk down is OK - takes about 20 minutes. Costa do not spend enough time at this lovely port
