Heads Up for 10-day Canada/New England Crown Princess cruise

Sail Date: September 2010
Destination: Canada & New England
Embarkation: Quebec City

This was our 7th Princess cruise and it was most disappointing.

FOOD: Unimaginative and bland. I generally order fish; white fish was the most common offered and would have been ok if it had some seasoning. The same vegetables, rice and potatoes were on the menu; again, no flavor.

IMMIGRATION CHECK: This was the worst. There were only 2 officers checking 2000 US citizens. The officers were 30 min late and the line extended from the Fusion Room to the Princess Theater. The time given to be in line meant nothing. It took an over an hour to get cleared. Several Princess tours were held up and cut short. If you had an independent morning tour, you missed it.

TENDER SERVICE: Only 4 tenders for all passengers (3000). Given a number when entering dining room and wait for your number was 45-60 minutes. Again, affecting your tours.

ENTERTAINMENT: No movies offered in Princess Theater only MUTS. Princess Theater holds 800 - with 3000 passengers you had to More get to theater an hour before show and WAIT.

OVERALL: The ports visited were very nice. We would not take a ship of this size in the future; too many logistical nightmares. Food needs to be greatly improved; quality was good, but preparation needs more taste and variation. Less

Cabin review: Crown Princess Oceanview Double with Balcony Baja

Cabin was typical of ship this size; no negative comments.

Port and Shore Excursions

Took an independent tour on Oli's Trolley. Very good tour for the price. Visited Eagle Lake, Cadillac Mt and Thunder Hole. The driver gave LOTS of local info. I would recommend taking this in the afternoon, since morning will be spent in Immigration line!

Princess Freedom Trail tour was very good. Lots of history and we had a great guide - didn't want us to miss anything.

Charlottetown and Halifax were done on our own. Charlottetown was very nice and easy to get around. St. George Street had everything; St. Dunstan's Basilica, Province House and Beaconsfield Historic House worth seeing; Ann of Green Gables Chocolate factory makes chocolate potato chips! In Halifax go to Farmer's Market on boardwalk. Maritime Museum with artifacts from Titanic very interesting. Hike up to the Citadel for a view of Halifax.

Didn't make it to Newport. The rains were extremely heavy. Stayed on ship.

Took Princess walking tour and carriage ride. Very nice and would recommend.

In St. John's we took the Princess Hop On Hop Off bus tour. Three loops for the price of one; a very good tour. Be sure to stop at Reversing Falls where the Bay of Fundy meets St. John's River.

Sydney, NS was aborted due to gale force winds; unsafe to tender in.
