Back to Princess after 5 years.

Sail Date: September 2010
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Copenhagen

Arrived in Copenhagen 1 day prior to the cruise and stayed at the Best Western Hotel City. Excellent Hotel and close to everything downtown. Took a cab to the cruise terminal cost about $26.00.

Embarkation was easy even though there was a large crowd. Our room was a balcony suite on the Dolphin Deck. The room furnishing are dated, but acceptable. My only complainant was the mattress, it was very lumpy. The room Steward service was top notch.

We ate in the Capri dining room and the service was excellent. I felt it was much better than the service on Holland America. The food was just as good or better than Holland America.

Bar service was the best we've experienced. The bars have a "happy hour" after 8:00 PM, and certain beers and drinks have a reduced price. Princess does not supply a receipt for beverage purchases, so check your bill daily. We found on two occasions we were charged the non "happy hour" price for drinks, but that was corrected More immediately.

TOURS- numerous people were complaining about the confusion in organizing tours. We only took 3 tours but we did not encounter any problems.

ENTERTAINMENT-was excellent

DISEMBARKATION- Our ship was due to dock in Civitavecchia (Rome) at 04:00 AM, but it docked well before that. We had a flight leaving at 10:20 AM and some people felt that we would miss our flight. We used Princess transportation and we were off the ship at 6:15 AM and at the airport by 7:30.

Overall this was an excellent cruise and after 14 days on a ship we had only 2 minor complaints. We were sorry we had not booked the cruise all the way to Venice Less

Good balcony room. Adequate storage and space. The balcony is uncovered while some of the balconies on the upper decks were covered.

Port and Shore Excursions

Took ships tour to a mountain top monastery. Excellent tour guide. Very crowded at the monastery.

Did the Town on our own. Nothing positive or negative. Been to Cannes several times in the past.

The port was DOVER. Did not take any ships tours, but there is a bus available for about $5.00. The Dover Castle and Wartime tunnels is a good way to spend the day.

Rented car at the pier. Make sure you book the car well in advance. Drove to the D Day museums. The cost for the car, tolls and museum entrance fees is about 1/3 of the cost of the ship's tours, plus you don't have to ride a bus.

Took the ships tour. Not a very good tour. It was suppose to be a fishing village and a mountain tour. Very long lines to get beck on the ship. We really did not spend enough time in the port.

Walked around the city on our own. Very expensive port, and that limited our activities.
